We have visited many times this beatiful Basilica in Cartago. There is much history about the culture of the area and the pilgrams that walk every year. The area is beautiful, lots of information and small "sodas" around for eating. The people are extremely friendly with great customer service. Please remember that you are visiting a church and dress appropirately.... More

... but the rest of Cartago is quite boring, especially compared to other old towns of Central America. More

This was one of the few tourist attractions right in Cartago. It was pretty although not on as grand a scale as churches in some other parts of the world. The plaza in front of the basilica is nice and a good spot to relax. More

We went here as a last minute thing and were so glad we did. It is very moving to see the people going down the aisle on their knees, with beautiful music playing in the church. We were there on a Sunday, so I don't know if you would see that during the week. Also, the healing waters are accessible... More

This church is gorgeous. Even if you are not Catholic it is worth a visit. Tourists are welcome but be considerate...it is a church. When we visited many people were speaking loudly and taking pictures with the flash on which is not welcomed. Residents of Costa Rica will visit the church and walk the entire isle, which is very long,... More

A highly revered and wonderful church smack dab in the middle of town. It's very close to the ruins, and is certainly within walking distance. I was there during christmas so the church was brimming with people. It was especially beautiful at night with all the christmas lights adorning the sides. More
