There are 480 steps down...and 480 steps back up. It's a beautiful waterfall, but there are nicer ones in Costa Rica with a lot less people. The hike can be very treacherous and with that many people it seemed like an accident waiting to happen. The waterfall was so powerful the day we went (due to recent rain), you couldn't... More

Views of waterfall is amazing. Very close to town and easy to go by cab. Nothing is bad about the place.

Beautiful waterfall. There are a lot of stairs down to get to the falls (and subsequently, just as many to get back up). There were a lot of people on the stairs, so it made the going a little bit slow, but there was enough space at the bottom that we felt we could appreciate the beauty without it being... More

This is a very beautiful waterfall. I've seen the Angel Falls but I think this is even more beautiful. Also the dip into water was refreshing and swimming towards the current was very nice. Lots of climbing though.

Waterfall was beautiful, but tough hike down (actually tough part was going up). My husband and I are fit so not an issue for us, but some people coming up looked like they were going to pass out. It poured the day we went so that took away form it a bit, but still worth seeing. Did not swim in... More

It was gorgeous! Glad we did the 20 minute hike down to see the huge falls. Change in the restroom into your suit, so you can swim. Sort of chilly but not unbearable- like an unheated swimming pool. Sneakers are fine. No need for sunscreen- all shady. My 7 year old loved every minute of it! I wouldn't hike it... More

When there by horseback ride which was fun. The falls were lovely but once down you do have to go back up. It is quite the hike. But worth it!

I read about the hike being steep, but now I know, people weren't kidding about it. It was a breeze going down, but we had to take a few breaks on the way up since we were travelling with young kids. But this was a nice activity. Our timing was perfect since we visited the waterfalls while it was raining... More

We went here as a part of a tour...WOW. What a beautiful place. The stairs down are a bit difficult...but I liked it - as its all a part of the adventure!

La Fortuna waterfall offers a nice hike to a fantastic waterfall. This is definitely something you can do on your own in a couple of hours. Wear hiking shoes/sneakers and rock your bathing suit. Though the rocks near the waterfalls are a bit slippery, the refreshing water is well worth the effort. For an extra adventure, drive yourself there and... More
