Child-sized equipment is also available. Nearly all of the tour takes place on private lands, crossing through second generation forest and primary forest, as well as beautiful pastures, some of which were used for cattle, and, of course, visitors will see the magnificent Arenal Volcano that accompanies visitors throughout the trip.Departure: 8:30 am or 1:30 p.mDuration: 3 hoursIncludes: Transportation, guide, equipment, water.Suggested Equipment: Long pants, cool shirts, binoculars, cameras, sunscreen, and insect repellent.

We had a lovely morning ride across some beautiful countryside. I've only ever ridden once before (nearly 20 years ago!) & felt extremely safe and at ease on a very well trained horse and with two fantastic guides. Would highly recommend.

The owners/operators of this horseback riding company were very professional and made the day a lot of fun. The weather was on the bad side with lots of rain and fog. It just added to the natural rainforest experience. The horses seemed to be well kept and trained. The natural environment you ride through is nothing short of amazing and... More

Our family loved this ride. You go over some hills and there are steep parts, but we all felt safe (except for the 5 seconds when my horse decided to gallop). We made a brief stop at the steakhouse and had some refreshing lemonade. The guide can take some great pictures of your family on horseback against beautiful scenery.

We took the horseback riding trip to the volcano. I was a little unsure as most tourist spots don't really care for their animals. The horses were in great shape and very well cared for. The guides take you through waterfalls and all around the ranch were there are cattle, sheep, and horses. The views are outstanding. What was really... More

My boyfriend and I had a very stressful morning trying to rent a car in La Fortuna, and weren't able to drive to the start of the tour ourselves like we thought we could. Luckily, they sent a car for us at our hotel, even though we were 45 minutes late! Angel, our driver, was very kind and wanted to... More

This horseback riding excursion was amazing...despite the constant rain. It ended up being just me and the guide which was a bonus. My guide's name was Oto and he barely spoke any English. My Spanish is limited, but somehow we made it work. I thought he was very nice and professional. He offered to take my picture during tour and... More

I've been on several horseback rides in various countries and they are usually similar. Most horses are followers, following the horse in front and going by memory vs. listening to the rider. A few horses like to be the leader and will actually let you ride with them instead of just on them. This ride was no different in that... More

I traveled with 12 students from Ramapo College and included a horseback riding excursion as part of their experience. Calbagata Don Tobias came very highly recommended. They were attentive by phone when asking questions, very professional and compassionate to new riders and offered a memorable experience on horseback. The restaurant was a pleasant addition to the experience and offers some... More

I was very nervous to go horseback riding for the first time but the staff was very nice and helped put me with a horse that seemed very calm, (William) I suggest asking for him. The tour was very fun and although it wasn't as beginner as I would have thought, it was very fun and I think almost anyone... More

I am NOT a seasoned horse rider, and this place made it easy and accessible. The horses are wonderful and forgiving. The leader (there were 7 of us, including a very young child) was kind and careful. His name is Harrison and he took good care of us gringos. We went up near the volcano. Weather prohibited is from seeing... More
