It is located 14 km SE of La Fortuna on national route 702 (La Fortuna-San Ramon). Besides indigenous arts & Boruca masks Coco Loco also exhibits the original artwork (arte DK) of the owner, Ruth Deiseroth-Kweton, who works in her studio next to the gallery. As a mixed-media artist Ruth uses any kind of material of the surrounding rainforest to paint and work on: wooden artefacts and surfaces, plant leaves, stones etc. She creates masks, vases, mirrors, crosses and paintings. « less

We were driving to Arenal Volcano National Park and just happened upon Coco Loco Art Studio and Gallery along the way. We stopped because we hadn't found any souvenirs during the first part of our trip that we felt were authentic and captured the essence of Costa Rica. The art in Coco Loco was beautiful and we found ourselves wandering... More

Like others who’ve already posted, what was on offer at Coco Loco made a refreshing change from the standard tourist shops and souvenirs we had seen earlier. We decided to buy a toucan sculpture carved out of dolomite. The owners (Ruth and Alfons) were offering free postage to send bought items abroad as long as you spent $300 or more.... More

Thank's a lot for taking the time to provide your detailed feedback regarding our art gallery and craft workshop. I was reluctant at first to comment on your review because I couldn't have explained that embarrassing experience better than you did. We provide shipping service internationally since 1999 (almost exclusively to the US & Canada). In all those years we... More

If you want something really special and butifull, that is the place. We bought an Hummingbird made by hand with a mirror. It's so nice on our wall in our bedroom, it reminds us our trip to Costa Rica. They send it to our house in Canada and the mirror was broken. Ruth ask us to send a picture of... More

I visited Costa Rica last month and wanted to bring back some art that resembled the lifestyle of the country and ended up at Coco Loco. Ended up getting 4 pieces of art that were, by the time I got back home, waiting for me nicely packed. The art is incredible and the customer service is unmatched. The owner spoke... More

We were driving to Arenal and just happened to see the sign for this studio. Although it was a Sunday and the sign said they were closed, we stopped anyway. We were so glad we did! The shop is fascinating! They have a wonderful selection of indigenous masks, pottery, paintings and jewelry. We bought several items and they shipped them... More

I visited this gallery/studio in November and bought a number of pieces for myself and to give as gifts. The largest of these was one of Ruth's fanciful mirror creations incorporating carved wooden monkeys and mirrors which she applied to the inside of a large wooden tamale-making platter. VERY heavy so she shipped it and my other pieces to me... More

We heard about the gallery from thela Fortuna hotel because we were looking for original art which was not packed with tourists. We visited the gallery on our way to Alajuela. There were enough signs for the gallery that we did not get lost. Once, we got there, we noticed Alfons was working on a piece of art. He greeted... More

Saw this quaint Art studio while driving towards tabacon/arenal volcano and so glad we decided to make the stop. Ruth was delightful and the assortment of treasures was spectacular. Do yourself a favor and make this a point of interest while going up to the volcano. You'll be glad you did!

I decided to check it out based on the positive reviews and that it was right next to where I was staying. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this place. It is a bit far from Fortuna. I went there with my husband and nobody greeted us. The art was okay. it was hard to focus because... More

Thank's for taking the time to provide your feedback regarding my art gallery and craft workshop. I am certainly disappointed that your visit was not all that it could have been. I am crafting my artwork in my own workshop and selling my pieces in my art gallery next door. I am aware that I have those moments when I... More
