this museum is in progress, half of it was being constructed on (so some areas are actually closed off entirely) and the other half had some catholic portraits/paintings. If you are walking by, step in..but don't go out of your way to see it.

The art here was very good. We had gone to see the exhibit about Juan Santamaria but it was closed until April 11. There was a kind man there who gave us a pamphlet about how tourists can best protect themselves and their "stuff".
Free admission. Not a whole lot to see but it is free and located by Central park and Cathedral Alajuela Centro
Housed in the former jail, the permanent exhibit is a short overview of the history of Costa Rica. They also have a changing exhibit of Costa Rican art. They have some interesting antiques and all in all, this recent renovation has been really well done.

This is a wonderful free museum across from the Parque Central in Alajuela. There is a permanent exhibit that provides a great overview of the history of Costa Rica. The traveling exhibits change regularly and are representative of the culture of Costa Rica. A "must see" if you have some time in downtown Alajuela.
It is a very interesting building, well kept and informative. If you are downtown, take a little time to see it/
Small but interesting place for a quick visit and a stopover from the heat of the day ...
Lovely colonial style building, interesting exhibition about the 1850s/60s revolution plus some local artwork, total tour time 25 mins, free
The rooms in this museum are huge and spacious. Could it be possible to add more exhibits, since the message is fundamental to understand the history of the country?
Good presentation of CR history. Roof top view provides a good view of the city and the countryside.
