This is a well tended zoo with nice walkways and fairly contented looking creatures. We chose it as the activity for our first day after flying into Costa Rica. It was just the right amount of action after a long day of travel, not strenuous but a great place to stretch one's legs. Beautiful birds for excellent photo ops. Not... More

Zoo Ave is a sanctuary for the many birds of Costa Rica. Many of the birds and animals here are animals that had been hurt and brought the Zoo Ave to be nursed back to health. They have a wide variety of birds and a number of animals that can be seen as you walk through park-like grounds full of... More

Its a nice place to get an idea about Costa Rican wildlife. There is a cafeteria just next to it called Cafe David, it offers food for a good price. Entrance fee is a little bit high though.

Plan on staying for several hours and wear comfortable walking shoes because it takes that long to see all the animals. They are all being rehabilitated to be returned to their homes but in the process are fascinating to see. Birds, reptiles, monkeys and all other kinds of wild animals - don't miss it!

The Zoo Ave purpose is a good one rescuing animals that have been hurt or ill treated by people. And that is great. However, the entrance fee (for non residents) is very high for the sights. I think that mostly children will like very much, a little less the adults. They have some amazing parrots that are not caged and... More

Nice zoo where we really got to see a lot of wildlife; our trip wasn't heavy on the nature outings, so this was the place where we got our fill of local birds and other animals. Loved seeing the emus up close, and my husband was completely fascinated by the free-ranging iguanas. Rubí, the albino squirrel, is another hit. Zoo... More

20 minutes by bus out of town, it took me 2 hours to see the whole zoo and I am pretty dedicated. Good range of birds but the mammal enclosures are so big and natural it can be hard to see the animals which is good for them. Cost is now $20. If you catch public bus it leaves from... More

A wonderful place to see a wide variety of tucans and other animals. The place is well- maintained and the staff is friendly and helpful. Near San Jose and easy to reach using public transportation.

This is a fabulous place to visit and see a variety of animals. It is not a zoo in that they bring in animals, rather it is a place where they rescue animals and take care of them, sharing them with the public. We spent about 2 hours here - we saw birds that we would not otherwise have seen... More
