Set in an authentic Costa Rician setting, this place features natural ways to exhibit injured native animals. Reptiles, mammals and birds abound. A small zip line also is available at extra charge.

We went here at the end of our roadtrip through costa rica, and enjoyed seeing all the animals. They take efford in making it a good place for them. They also have breeding programs and release into nature again. Normally i dont go to zoo because of the lock up of animals, but here is different because they rescue and... More

Zoo Ave is technically an animal rescue and breeding centre, but what visitors see is basically a zoo. Not quite your average zoo - no lions, tigers, elephants or the usual parade of animals from around the globe. Pretty much everything here is from Central or South America, and many of the species are endangered. Another difference from the average... More

It was our first day of a birding trip when both our CR and UK guides asked us if there was something we wanted to do before going to the bank to see the Crimson fronted parakeets. The hotel had some local information and mentioned Zoo Ave. Neither of the experienced guides had been there. They were just as impressed... More

This place is gorgeous. Lush tropical gardens housing numerous Central American birds & other wildlife in superb natural surroundings. Immaculately kept by caring people. We loved it.

We initially though this was mostly a bird sanctuary but we were delighted to realize that there are many other animals there. Of course, as a refuge, the types of birds an animals varies, but we were able to see squirrel monkeys, spider monkeys, turtles, tapirs, caimans, toucans, sloths, parrots, macaws, and many more critters. What we really liked is... More

We spent over an hour on a rainy day wondering thru this rescue/habitat. Very clean, well paved walkways. We enjoyed it very much. We are a couple in our 70's, and found this to be a good activity for us. I note some comments regarding the pricing difference between locals and tourists. I think this is a fine policy, as... We loved our visit to this zoo which houses just 2% of native wildlife they have rescued but are unable to release back into the wild. All proceeds from the Wild Animal Park go to funding their rescue and rehabilitation efforts. It is very clean and well maintained. Beautiful grounds. Not to be missed!
