We initially though this was mostly a bird sanctuary but we were delighted to realize that there are many other animals there. Of course, as a refuge, the types of birds an animals varies, but we were able to see squirrel monkeys, spider monkeys, turtles, tapirs, caimans, toucans, sloths, parrots, macaws, and many more critters. What we really liked is... More

We spent over an hour on a rainy day wondering thru this rescue/habitat. Very clean, well paved walkways. We enjoyed it very much. We are a couple in our 70's, and found this to be a good activity for us. I note some comments regarding the pricing difference between locals and tourists. I think this is a fine policy, as... We loved our visit to this zoo which houses just 2% of native wildlife they have rescued but are unable to release back into the wild. All proceeds from the Wild Animal Park go to funding their rescue and rehabilitation efforts. It is very clean and well maintained. Beautiful grounds. Not to be missed!

Animals here are rescues which for whatever reason can't be returned to the wild. Lots of beautiful birds, iguanas, turtles monkeys..... Not too big to walk around easily. Tiny gift shop, some lunch foods . The entry fee goes to animal rescue...

I really enjoyed Zoo Ave when I visited yesterday with my girlfriend. This is a place where some rescued animals that can't be released end up. Most of the enclosures tell you how many animals of that species they have managed to release back into the wild. We really enjoyed seeing all the birds and animals and it was also... More

Great day trip! Zoo Ave is very clean and well kept. The walkways are good and clearly marked. We have been here twice and each time have had a good experience. Great for kids and animal lovers!

Perfect for a day trip! They have done a wonderful job on how clean the place is! I wish it wasn't so expensive for foreigner to get it compared to locals but it's a good place to go!

While staying nearby, we strolled down the road to Zoo Ave and enjoyed a very pleasant afternoon viewing many of the birds we weren't fortunate enough to see in the wild. The grounds are nicely landscaped as well and the location was very peaceful.

I enjoyed this so much. In my many trips to Costa Rica, I finally got to experience it. I took the bus from Alejuela for an unbeliveably low price, and since I told the driver where I was going, he made sure I got off at the right place. The Zoo Ave is in fact a "wildlife restoration" where many... More
