This beautiful park is actually located in La Garita, about 10 km from Alajuela or 15km from Atenas. Every trail is a beautiful jungle walk with birds and some other animals in little nooks and big exhibits along the trails. If you love tropical plants, a visit is worth it for that alone! But birds are the stars as the... More

I had a few hours to kill while in Alajuela, so I took a bus from the chaotic bus station not far from the center of town (ask for the bus to La Garita, and tell the driver you want to get off at Zoo Ave. You'll go right by it, but you'll have to tell the driver to stop)... More

We saw it all here; and often these creatures just wandered across us on the path! Monkeys, peacocks and stunning birds many roaming free -- others ( of course who might want to EAT those roaming free!) where in large enclosures. The grounds were beautiful - this was very interesting and educational. Loved it.

We needed something to do the last half day we were in Costa Rica. We still had not seen a sloth while visiting CR, so hoped we could at least see one here. The location is not far from the airport hotels, and since we still had a rental car, it was very convenient. The park was great right from... More

i saw animals i never knew existed, the pathways are easy to walk, it has lots of rest spots and shade, even a snack bar, where you can get everything from nachos for 1 dollar to a full lunch, also alone the way they have a small gift shop and ice cream cones. the animals here are treated nicely, so... This is an excellent place to see the birds of Costa Rica. I dislike zoos, but if a zoo must exist, this one may be the one to visit. Notwithstanding a few reluctant cats, most of these animals are local birds. Here one can see rare and exotic species of birds such as the quetzal and the colourful macaws and... More

We had such a good time walking the paths here and seeing all the animals, and we love that the park supports conservation efforts and that all the animals within the park are rescues animals. This place was a beautiful experience and there were many more animals that we thought would be there. Highly recommend!

While the price range is ok the visist itself is worth it the total trip to see it all might easily take about an hour, wear comfortable shoes my last visit was a few years ago and I'm really looking forward another visit while the name stands for birds, there are all kind of Monkeys, Snakes and many other type... I loved the foliage , it was so lush. I only wish I was able to pet the animals, this is what I thought made the Zoo Ave special, I must have read something wrong. We did miss the butterfly garden, didn't see the signs. it was hard, most signs were in Spanish, it was helpful to have a spanish... More

We had no trouble finding this wonderful place. And, once there, I did not want to leave! Not only did we find a great variety of animals but what I especially liked was the very informative signs that most of the cages or enclosures had. The staff was also knowledgeable & helpful. We took a break & enjoyed lunch bought... More
