Would have liked if it offered a bit more hiking but that's not the resorts fault More

Its is hard to describe the sensation of being at the board of an active volcano, so you must see by yourself, if you are lucky enough to have good visibility, as this is a very foggy high mountain. Go very early, no later than 8 a.m. and wait long enough if visibility is poor. You may go in the... More

As a little side adventure while waiting for a team to arrive in Costa Rica a few of us traveled up a beautiful mountain side up to Volcan Poas. The drive was incredible with some amazing views of the area, little towns and coffee bean fields. Once we got to the park we visited the little coffee shop inside for... More

The altitude shifts dramatically during the dramatic incline. The volcano crater looks like the moon, scorched earth but surrounded by lush greenery. More

Although you need to be there by 8 AM to get the best view, it is so well worth it to see the beautiful lake and the overall view is unforgettable. I have been there several times and never regretted it. More

This is not your run-of-the-mill volcano. Rather it resembles an open pit mine, not a conical geological feature. The green toxic lake continually gives off clouds of steam heated by the magma below and the lake bottom is covered in liquid sulfur. We visited with local ex-pat friends and were particularly impressed by the fact than an ambulance was stationed... More

We arrived shortly after the park opened at 8:00am on a Sunday, so we almost had the place to ourselves. It was not too hot or humid when we walked up the slight hill to the observation deck. We were impressed with the view down into the volcano with the low clouds and the steam coming out of the volcano.... More

We had a great time hiking to the volcano to find it socked in looking like a bowl of jelly. We continured on with the hike and did a loop of two and one half kilometers to return to find the volcano had cleared and we got some decent shots of it. It was a great day trip and our... More

Make sure you bring OFF with 30+ deet - lots of bugs but you are in a rainforest, can't expect anything less. We hiked the entire thing and it was a hike and it was certainly well worth it. We showed up around 1pm and we got amazing views. One of the best things to do in the San Jose... More
