I saw an architectural walk in my tourist guide so decided to do this on my first afternoon in Shanghai. I did not expect to find a small museum in the former residence of Mao Zedong. Did not expect too much of this from reading other guidebooks and blogs, but was pleasantly surprised. House is a quick walk from the metro station in a nice neighborhood. This is an interesting small museum, which I enjoyed. The captions in English are well written. Although he lived here for a short time, there was information here about his second wife and children, that I did not know about. If you are interested in history, it is well worth a visit.

Free to enter and had lot of English explanations from a Chinese perspective! Lots of artefacts and photographs. Worth a visit for the history buffs.

This was formerly one of the residence which Chairman Mao resided during his time as the organisation secretary of the Communist Party of China. It is a 2-storey Shikuman house located in an alley between Weihai Road and Maoming Road. This building is now a historical site under the government protection.
