I really hope that the cruise ships do sign on to depart from Mobile. The opportunities for small boutiques would explode on Dauphin Street. As it is now much of the store frontage is boarded up. However Dauphin Street is the place to find local artisans and there creations. The prices are very fair too.

This street has nice, old, buildings. You'll find most of the best restaurants of downton there. The thing is it's kind of empty... many buildings (on the east side) are closed, not just because they are not open, just because nothing is in there... It's sad because it gives a weird/unsecure look to the street... Add some bars, restaurants, house... More

We were staying in the Battle House Hotel and spent part of three days and evenings walking the streets in this area. On Friday night we were able to experience Art Walk (held the 2nd Friday of the month). Some of the streets were closed to vehicular traffic; people strolled along with dogs and strollers, shops were open late, street... More

We visited on a hot Monday afternoon so in fairness to Mobile we probably didn't see it at its liveliest. Lots of empty units and only a few worthwhile shops. Some nice architecture. Our highlight was lunch at Panini Petes and the best shop by a mile was Urban Emporium - delicious popsicles. I felt a bit sorry for Mobile,... More

Easy walking not too many blocks. Several restaurants and bars. a couple of parks, live entertainment, and a theater. A couple of antique stores and a nice way to spend an afternoon.

We loved driving around looking at all of historic mansions. It is easy to get around and you can find your way back to your hotel with no problem.

Lots to see and do on Dauphin Street - food, shopping, art, history. We ate breakfast at the Spot O' Tea on Cathedral Square. The Cathedral is historic and beautiful, the Cathedral Eggs Benedict were the best I ever ate - crabcake on top of muffin, covered in a creamy sauce filled with crawfish and redfish bits - oh my!... I'm sure city fathers and the many business people that are involved with Dauphin street put the ideas of this together, they I visioned a fun bar / restaurant / and attraction area. It hasn't worked yet! Many empty buildings and bars and restaurants for sale. Really, it's not worth your time!

Nice trendy downtown area with great restaurants and pubs. It has a little square/park to sit in and feed birds and squirrels. If you have a chance check out the big old church, its very interesting and old.

Lots of clubs on the street, and a few stores as well. A bit of the 50s in downtown. Easy walking, a couple of small parks for sitting.
