This was a pleasant place for a walk on a Sunday afternoon. The street is charming and the parks pretty. However, many places were closed, permanently, and many buildings had not been restored or spruced up. There were several bums sleeping on benches, etc. The historical architecture is lovely. People were friendly.

I'm torn on Dauphin Street. On one hand, there are several local institutions that serve good food and are filled with good people. On the other hand, many storefronts are boarded up and empty and leave you with a sad feeling.

This should be a good destination. The problem is that most of the shops and stores, including restaurants, are closed and boarded up. There are a few exceptions and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, a beautiful church, is one of the exceptions. Truly disappointing because this street is like so many others in Mobile, virtually deserted much of the... More

many closed shops and restaurants -- economically depressed, creates a negative overall impression. Pretty much deserted until evening.

Dauphin St is a very historic area in downtown Mobile. There are some very good restaurants located there for lunch and dinner. It needs more shops to keep tourists interested during the day and early evening. Nice area for photography. An old theater for symphonies and performances. An old cinema that shows independent films with a glass of wine. Some... More

It is a short street, but you can find a lot of place to eat and hang out. It is the place to be in the evening, although it is mainly lively during the weekend. It is very nice also for lunch, you can eat even outside which is quite unusual.

Love every minute of Dauphin but not as awesome as Bourbon or Bealle St except durining Mardi Gras. Very fun nice bars and resturants but Mobile is a very late starting city. prolly my least fav part.

Someone once said Mobile is the "city of perpetual potential." Favored with so many great features -- mild climate, spectacular Mobile Bay at the mouth of the magnificent Tensaw watershed, a 250-year-old history, gorgeous historical districts -- it seems to be determined to shoot itself in the foot. Like so many cities, it cut out its heart in the 60s-70s... More

The day time scene is good many great restaurants, Downtown is beautiful in the spring. Night life is great, bars for any preference many have good bands, not just local, on the weekends.

A walk down Government Street and Dauphin Street are highly recommended. In the evening the view from the Sky View Lounge on the top floor of the Holiday Inn Downtown is spectacular.
