Take the river cruise when you feel hot to walk, then cruise will pass through some building with mural that painted the history mainly in malay sultanate since Parameswara and China admiral Cheng Ho, imagine the free port trading happening here 600 years ago... sometimes we are just welcoming other cruise guests and people along riverside by waving hand and... Architecture, History and great food. The walking tour is a must (it's free) starts at 9.30am. Just register at the visitor centre at 9am. Great insight into all the history. Brilliant stop for a few days.

Well worth a trip. Make sure you do this first as it gives you an overview of Melaka. Some nice bars on the riverside that you may miss if you just walk around. Nice during the day but very pretty at night with all the lights.

Tickets can be purchased (RM21.20 for adult, RM7.50 for child; local people pay less) at the booth which is half a minute walk from the jetty. Life jacket available but nobody wore them. Cruise was done at a comfortable speed and passengers under shade. Lots to see. Lots of photo ops too.

This river snakes through teh city and the river cruise offers an unique view into the heart of an ancient city and a rare glimpse into how life used to be a century ago. They have preserved the waterfront well and the entire river, although in the middle of swampland, is generally clean and does not smell too much of... More

We liked the walkway along the river, has little places to eat dotted along it. Nice flowers in pots that are looked after.

As a national labelled heritage place. Every building shows great history. A good walk starting from the church, along the river to the fort, followed by the first Chinese Ship that set foot in Malaya (now a mock up with a museum inside) Cross the river bridge you get to savour the old houses with authentic 19th century looks. Rive... More

Take a boat trip on the Melaka river. You can purchase your tickets at the jetty area nearby the old fort. The trip takes you up and down the river so you can see much of the cultural life on the banks of this river. There is a speaker guided tour, which does tend to run a bit behind what... More
