Located after Pahlawan Mall on a gentle hill, one can go through a ticketing gate to ascend the St Paul's Hill to visit the ruins of the Catholic Church. There street hawkers along the way selling momentos and within the church one can find historical tablets with inscriptions dating back to the Portugese-ruled period. Situated beside this castle/fort-like church, one... More

Historical place and structure. Provides a glimpse of the past. Ancient building and pretty good place for photo-taking. Short walk from the Red Square or Jonker Street. Unfortunately, no respect is given to the past or to the religion there. Maintenance could be better. Was bothered by the traders there selling their trinkets and making lots of noise inside this... This is a ruin of an ancient Christian church. Unfortunately there is a total lack of respect for this, either as a building or as a religious relic. There were tables set up inside the church, selling trashy trinkets, there were bowls of food for cats, which were wandering everywhere and the children were climbing over ancient tombstones with no... looking at the ruin, (top of church no longer there),you can imagine the years gone by before his canonization and his name used everywhere in schools, churches, universities and other organisations.

It is a short distance from the Stadthys. You need to walk a short distance to get to the church. It was the Portuguese who built this small chapel and named it Our Lady of the Hill which was later enlarged and renamed Annunciation. The present building was completed in 1590, with a tower on the right side of the... More

This hill is an effortless little stroll. Compared to the ruins of St. Paul in Macau, this is more substantial and has a better atmosphere. Yes, there were peddlers, but they were not noisy or aggressive when I was there. I enjoyed perusing the carvings on the tombstones in the different languages and fonts over the years. The picture carvings... More

I don't object at all to poor folks trying to make a living, but the hawkers are even set up, in some cases, inside the church ruins.

A short climb up the hill and there are the ruins of the church with views across Malacca. Wander from there to the "Red Building" then to Jonkers Street, or down to the new Mega Mall!

The place gets crowded and the historical importance is a bit lost. Was a bit annoying to have very young children selling whistles etc in the area.
