The mix of a classical Italian lady holding a larger than life boll weevil will undoubtedly puzzle and disappoint some visitors, but the tribute can speak volumes to those who take the time to get the full story. When life delivers boll weevils to your cotton crops, face that adversity and turn it into profitable peanuts! Since moving to Enterprise... More

Nice, simple monument to a long ago forgotten time. Easy to simply observe and appreciate its physical aesthetic, but there's something deeper to it.It's a reminder of change from a crop and a mindset that carried over from the time of slavery. It's symbolic of a changing America, and of a time when WWI was a very, very fresh memory... More

We expected to see a giant boll weevil. Instead what we saw was fountain in the middle of an intersection with a little statue on top.

In 1915, the Mexican Boll Weevil wrecked havoc on the cotton crop in Coffee County (Enterprise). Close to 60% of the cotton production was destroyed and, to avoid bankruptcy, farmers turned to peanuts and other crops to overcome the damage brought on by the boll weevil. By 1917, Coffee County produced and harvested more peanuts than any other county in... More

I must say this is a first for me... A monument to a bug that had the power to destroy your families crops. We all must admire the fortitude, courage and humor put forth by the farmers long since gone by. We know these people worked very hard at that point in time to make a bear minimal wage for... More

The Boll Weevil Monument in downtown Enterprise, Alabama, is a landmark and tribute erected by the grateful people of Enterprise in 1919 to show their appreciation to an insect, the boll weevil, for its profound influence on the area's agriculture and economy. It hails the beetle as a "herald of prosperity," and stands as the first monument built to honor... More

Pretty cool historical monument. It sits in the middle of the road in downtown Enterprise, AL. It reminds me of The Andy Griffith Show with the monument in the middle of the town. Enterprise has this monument and several other things to see when you are here. Lots of shopping downtown in little boutiques.

The greatest thing about this monument is it's story. This is a monument of a lady holding a boll weevil (yes, the bug). The monument is in the middle of an intersection, however, traffic is usually pretty light and locals are used to people running out into the middle of the road to get a picture.

Interesting attraction if you're into agricultural history. The monument is unique in that it is of an actual boll weevil, the south's dreaded nemesis. Bittersweet as it is, this insect the plaque explains is responsible for the diversification of the farming industry in the South. The only problem with this particular memorial is that it is situated in the center... More

The centerpiece to the town giving claim to 'fame' of the only momument to an insect pest. the add on of the small boll weevil is a bit disappointing but it is the town 'namesake' so to speak.
