If you want a nice beach getaway without the crowds Dauphin Island is the place to go. The trade off is no crowds means almost no restaurants. The best restaurants will be off the island a ways back (about 45 minutes) But try catching your own fish and grilling it up somewhere. Dauphine Island Beach is the place to go... More

this beach is nicer than corpus christi and those along the gulf in texas, but nowhere near a caribbean kind of experience. i guess i read about white sand and "clear" water and was hoping for a replay of our USVI trip from last year. the sand is white, and beautiful, and clean (unless people litter--don't litter people.) but the... Loved loved loved. Really great beach with so so facilities. Has bathrooms and showers. $2 to park and $3 per person worth it! Beautiful view. Needs to have refreshments however. we(9 people12 waters) ran out of water after a couple hours in the salty water, and left. Would have stayed longer if they sold water.

I will echo the other reviewers in saying that YES- it is trashy, My first morning walk, i picked up more bottlecaps than shells...and when I first saw all the oil rigs, i felt disappointed- . on the other hand, the water was pretty clear- and the beach was white...there were lovely pavilions there to rest in the shade...and there... We stayed at Dauphin Island expecting something akin to nearby Gulf Shores. There is no comparison. I will say drive down to the island had far less traffic than the stretch off if I10 to Gulf Shores..but that's because people aren't lining up to go to Dauphin Island. The drive is very rural, which was pretty; then it just got... More

A friend and I spent 2 nights on Dauphin Island. We stayed in a VRBO that was certainly adequate. The island is very quiet. Nothing like the traffic and attractions at Gulf Shores. I wasn't as impressed by the beach/sand as that on beaches further east. Beach access is not great. The beach behind Ft Gaines on the east end... More

This water is more like a salty lake than ocean. It's dirty brown and trash every where in the water and on shore. The scenery is shrimp boats and oil rigs. If your looking to wast time and do nothing come stay on the island other wise don't waste your time.

Loved the beaches!! Watch where you park! Designated parking areas are a must or the beach patrol will give you a ticket!

It was beautiful on the island and this beach. I wish they had an area set aside for fishermen only. Also that people would clean up after themselves. It was beautiful white sand beach, with lots of shells for the kids to see, and crystal clear water.

Once we found the beach the parking was $5. The walk to the beach was long through thick white sand, so if you have lots of stuff, bring a cart. There was plenty of room to stretch out and a huge tidal pool the kids could explore it. If you fished there was a large bay on the back side... More
