I accompanied my wife on a business trip to India in September of 2012. While she was in meetings one day I decided to trek out with our driver and see the flower market that was high on the list of attractions to see while in Kolkata. To be honest I have no idea how to rate this place. it... More

Visiting Kolkata during the Durga Puja is always a memorable occasion; this time we wanted to do something different........so one morning (day of Panchami), my husband and I woke early and took off to Howrah Bridge, under which this sprawling wholesale flower market is situated. The sheer buzz yet high level of organization here left us at a loss for... More

Great opportunity for photos. Lots of colour and activity. Get there early in the morning to see the most flowers. Close to the bridge and station too.

As a photographer, it was an unbeatable stop. Wading through mountains of flowers, throngs of people, feeling the pulse of commercial transactions, watching workers and craftspeople create garlands, arrangements, bouquets. Prepare to have your senses bombarded. It will be an unforgettable experience.

The colour and smells (good and bad) of this market area are intense. What we particularly liked is that, in such a crowded area, not once did we feel unwelcome, nor unsafe, and no one hassled us to beg or to to buy anything. This is - perhaps - because it is a wholesale market area and the people are... More

colour, hustle & bustle - a great spot for photographers to chat to some of the stall holders & some great light if you time your visit to a market that is open 24-7 Just up the river you can also visit a crematorium ghat (burning ghat)

The flower market is located off the beaten track and is a clear example of days gone by where both market traders and poverty exist side-by-side. The visit we made was brief but it was nice to see the colourful arrays of flowers displayed and the various stalls who compete against one another in selling their blooms over others. Clearly... I went here in the early morning, and it was a great visit to see the many flowers or arrangements for sale. The place is quite sprawling with hundreds of small shops or stalls selling flowers.
