The flower market is located off the beaten track and is a clear example of days gone by where both market traders and poverty exist side-by-side. The visit we made was brief but it was nice to see the colourful arrays of flowers displayed and the various stalls who compete against one another in selling their blooms over others. Clearly... I went here in the early morning, and it was a great visit to see the many flowers or arrangements for sale. The place is quite sprawling with hundreds of small shops or stalls selling flowers.

Located right below the Howrah Bridge on the Kolkata side. Use stairs to climb down from the Bridge. Alternatively, get down at the Howrah bridge tram depot and walk across the street to reach the market. There is a temple inside as well. Time to visit: early morning. The place is heaped with flowers/ garlands of every shape, size and... More

I hope the colour and the energy at this place. In the morning the light is perfect for photography. Also, along the river you can sit back and enjoy the study of the local life.

If you are a keen gardener, this market is a must and will probably make you very envious. I have never seen so many amazing colours in one place. And the smells are amazing. Kolkata, the former capital of India, has its slums like most other cities, but the centre is very elegant with wide avenues and beautiful parks. Look... More

every visit to this market is really intense, due to the huge amount of colours, smells, flavours that surround you and that "hit" you at any step. it is an oasis of beauty and nature, inside a city that could often offer you unpleasant sights. but it is also a place of hard work, so, try to remember it during... This is a great place to go in the mornings if you like photography. The colours and the local atmosphere are just great. The view from Howrah bridge is good - Just be careful about photography of the bridge (local security forces don't allow that)

If you like walking Kolkata, don't miss this incredible market under the famous Howrah bridge. Take some flowers for your loved one and/or a local temple. If you still have some energy left after the market, I recommend crossing the bridge and taking a ferry back to one of the various ghats of the city.

Definitely worth the visit. Local real market, not for tourists. Near the river and gate. You'll experience some real Kolkata and meet local people. And it's free!
