Located on the Hoogly river bank, Belur math is a shrine maintained by Ramakrishna Mission. Visiting the place will give you the feeling of peace and tranquility.

We are western devotees of Sri Ramakrishna and traveled to India specifically to visit places we had read so much about. the Belur Math campus is clean and well-maintained and the shrines are so beautiful the main temple is stunning and a deeply quiet within.

When you need to spend time alone, go there. It;s clean, beautifully maintained and beside the shrine, you can just spend some time in the campus, near the Ganges

It was the sunset scene at the shrine that was mesmersing. Hundreds of devout worshippers thronged to the shrine, we were there to witness the faith and devotion of the people. It was indeed an unforgetable experience

We crossed Ganga from Dakineshwar Kali Badi via boat cum steamer. That journey was itself enjoyable and one can see the vast Ganga and fishermen using their large nets. We reached around 6pm when it's already dark so we can't see much. We still like the place though, it's like a nice garden with temple and museum, focusing on spirituality.
