The Kali Temple in Kalighat, Kolkata, is considered as a "Pilgrimage" for Hindus in general. The main temple and the nearby shops makes the place both a religious and touristic attraction. On certain days of the week, such as Tuesdays and Saturdays, the crowd of devotees is particularly large and it is best for the casual visitor to avoid going... More

You have so much expectation from Kali ma temple in Kolkata but once you reach this place the pandits out here do not make you feel good. They are behind your life to loot as much as possible. You forget the darshan part and want to get rid of this pandits you harrass you like anything.

Holy temple dedicated to Mother Kali, this is one of the name giver to city. Other being "kata" meaning jute rope. Very ancient and one of the Shaktipeeths. But priests managing and maybe owning it are intolerable. They amass devotees in line-the crush of the rush is suffocating,by closing darshan at will. They are too greedy and dirty. Animal sacrifice on... More

Visited the temple during October. The temple was overcrowded as we visited during the last day of Durga Pooja. The first thing that comes to my mind are the touts around the temple who will approach tourists. They will ask for money to help you get past the long queues. You will be charged anywhere between 200-500 plus the Pooja... More
