Panda will tell that he will take you in to the idol and wont comply. Line goes closer to the idol. Stand peacefully in the line and enjoy the darshan of holy mother. Temple area is poorly maintained No cleaning Beware of thieves. Pandas, Beggers and woman (unknown business) will spoil your mood. AVOID THEM

My friend and I (both from Chennai)reached Kalighat temple around 11.30AM on 19th Feb 2015. We walked through a very narrow lane to reach the place. The temple street was filled with shops selling flowers. A guy from one of these shops offered to care for our footwear and told us to hurry as the temple would close by 12pm(he... More

Beware of thugs(priests) in every nook and corner. Mismanagement is so rampant that I the bhakti bhav will never come up during the temple visit. Goons and rowdies in the form of middlemen can be found in evry nook and corner. No need to find them, they will find and loot you. Don't fall into their trap. The actual darshan... More

This is a gud holy place to visit but at the same time beware of priests who actually asks for huge amount of money for darshan and other pooja rituals. There are a lot of small temples in the premises. Market outside the temple is descent for small purchases like idols and other momentous items.

This is one of the attractions in Kolkata. A decent place to visit and worship/pray to kali mata. The only concern is; it is located in a bit congested place. Please Please Please beware of pandits asking for money to get into temple early or to even do pooja and chadhawa to Kali maata. If you believe in god then... More

Either you go like a rowdy there or get looted. This temple is filled with thieves who call themselves pandits. They collect money illegally even to have darshan. Yesterday, they looted a person of Rs. 16,000/- in the name of God!!! Looting Rs. 500/- from people is common...... they demand or they do not let you have darshan. These pandits... More

Beware of priests wanting money for darshan. Marketplace outside is nice to walk around. Be careful with high prices and also don't eat the street food if you are not used to the foods in India. Was a good experience overall and was lovely to see all the different coloured vermillion sold by the street which is used as part... More

Luckily we had a local friend guiding and explaining. Dress respectively. Don't get caught by the fake tout/guide & priests who only practice in the street. This is full on for a westerner but fascinating. Only went on around the interior temple surrounds and not to Kali herself. That would take a long time and you may wish to make... More
