We went to have a darshan and were utterly disappointed in the visit. The pandas right from the beginning wanted money from having darshan to everything. He lured us to another panda who did 'some' ?pooja and demanded Rs 5000 We were there at 1340 and another panda said as he had helped us with the darshan he should be... More

Must visit temple for anyone visiting Kolkata. Kalighat temple is one of the four Adi Shaktipeethas of Maa Sati. There are 4 Adi Shaktipeethas and 52 Shaktipeethas where Maa Sati's body part or ornament fell down in earth while Lord Shiva performed "Thandava" with Maa Sati's self immolated body in Daksha's yagya as per Hindu mythology. To bring Shiva out... More

Avoid wearing shoe as there will ask you to biy offering at inflated prices to keep the shoes at their stall. A priest will then come and offer to take you straight to have darshan by paying rs100 per person. He then took us to have puja with the offering we bought. The priest there will ask to repeat after... More

The moment we got down from our vehicle, a temple priest accosted us asking for Rs. 101 for leading us to inside the temple and arranging a darshan from close quarters. As we followed the priest took the temple key from some security man (perhaps a police cop on security duty). Next we were escorted to a shopkeeper who sold... More

Its a place of Religious Importance for Hindus. The pandits are the nightmare for this place. They can spoil ur experince. Best way to visit this temple is avoid very pandit and dalal...straight go to the temple without any prasad....take darshan. Priest can say mandir will be closed soon...but its fake. They tell u darwaza yaha se hai...dnt believe the shopkeepers... More

Very poor management inside Kalighat temple. Priest have turned into DALAL'S inside temple. They are collecting money and putting in their pockets, and obstructing way of people who are not paying them directly. They push the people who don't want to pay them. There is no control on them. It was a very bad experience in temple. Will never visit... More

The Kali temple at Khalighat is the oldest temple in the world, definitely something worth seeing. It is an experience best described by going. Anyone who has seen the Kali image there would understand.

Kalighat is like a locality in the city of Calcutta/Kolkata on the banks of the river Hooghly also called as Bhagirathi or Ganga. The name of Calcutta/Kolkata is said to have been derived from the word Kalighat. It is observed that the river over a period of time has moved away from the temple. Practically the temple now stands on... More

The Kali Temple in Kalighat, South Kolkata is ageless. There may not be any one coming to Kolkata who hasn't heard of this temple. But hearing is one thing and being there quite another. There is always a crowd streaming in to offer prayers to Ma Kali and then there are Pandas (not the bear variety) who will hound you... More
