Found it very crowded during the evening time. People rushing back from the offices makes it very crowded. Although it has good some good street food options.

Chowringhee is one long street with historic buildings like Oberio Grand,National museum, etc. on one side and the maidan(field) on the other. The footpath is crowded with hawkers and too many people on the road. The Govt. has changed the road's name to Jawaharlal Nehru Road but bet even most Kolkattans are unaware about it.Another landmark building on this road is the American... Chowringhee is practically the heart of Kolkata. While the East side hustles & bustles with people & traffic, the west side is the long open field of Maidan reaching up to the river Ganges. Right on the middle of Chowringhee is the famous Oberoi Grand Hotel of Kolkata - one of the best in India. Around it are the shopping... More

A stroll across the Chowringhee, from the Park Street crossing to the Lenin Sarani crossing, will give the tourist a feel of everything - Imperial British architecture in scores of buildings, the bazaar culture of Indian cities through the hawkers lining the pavements, street food, fast food and fine dining options, good watering holes, a huge museum, the YMCA, a... Real Kolkata....here...shop,stroll,eat and experience the colours and flavours of the city...you get amazing stuffs right on the pavement bazaars which is highly unlikely to be found anywhere...brace for parking issues if you go by your own vehicle...best way is to park your car around Park street and take a walk towards Espalanade Metro Station and explore.

Busy, busy, busy. Loaded with stalls selling everything you can imagine and loads and loads of the same things in every stall. You want belts, jeans, "inner" wear, outer wear, shawls, watches, electricals etcetc - you name it, you can get it. Bargain hard. Do be aware of pickpockets and forget about personal space, you'll have none.
