We had visited Botanical Garden very recently. First of all there is Entry Fee of Rs 10 per person and Still Camera Rs 20. Shockingly there is Fee for Mobile Camera of Rs 20 even if the Mobile Camera is not working. However, we paid & entered to find out that it looked more like a Forest than a Botanical... More

We took a taxi reach there within half an hour as the distance is very less from Kolkata. This is a nice place for people want to enjoy greenery within the city. Once you reach there you cannot feel you are near Kolkata. There is no traffic sound, pollution and even that much rush. There are lot of spots in the... More

Picnic time with folks :)). The Great Banyan tree is still the unbeatable Heritage. Once in a group of your own, outside indecency can be ignored. Otherwise, not a decent place to hangout.

The garden badly needs to have basic infrastructure in place - route maps are not updated, trees are not labelled, sign boards damaged. don't visit on Saturday since cactus house and herbarium are closed! the official website does not mention this info. spend some time in the great Banyan tree - 4000 prop roots. there is not cafeteria inside so... This is a large green space but laid out more like a preserve than an organized botanical garden. It was a nice place to visit to get away from the city buildings, but really well documented aside from the panels for the great banyan tree.

As others have pointed out it does not compare to European botanical gardens, and in a way I am glad of that, we spent an hour or two here, it wasn't perfect, there were weeds...but hey they were different weeds than the ones we get at home so they were interesting, it was lovely to visit a space that was... A large area of sprawling greenery in the middle of congested urban Kolkata. It's a beautifully maintained colonial garden with numerous summer huts and paved tracks for jogging. There are also various exotic plants to admire. A must visit for nature lovers.

Spent some time here when we came to see the largest banyan tree. It is impressive! Wow. Also saw a wild jackal, which was a real treat as the on,y one we'd seen in India was at the Zoological Park in Darjeeling. The staff are nice. Unfortunately there aren't enough of them working to keep the weeds down and keep... More

One had visited the garden decades ago when it used to be maintained well and a popular attraction. But this time, in Jan 2014, it was a great disappointment. Though the new centenary gate from Andul road was close to the city and access from the new Hoogly Bridge easy, the great garden was shorn of its beauty; the neglect... More
