As others have pointed out it does not compare to European botanical gardens, and in a way I am glad of that, we spent an hour or two here, it wasn't perfect, there were weeds...but hey they were different weeds than the ones we get at home so they were interesting, it was lovely to visit a space that was... A large area of sprawling greenery in the middle of congested urban Kolkata. It's a beautifully maintained colonial garden with numerous summer huts and paved tracks for jogging. There are also various exotic plants to admire. A must visit for nature lovers.

Spent some time here when we came to see the largest banyan tree. It is impressive! Wow. Also saw a wild jackal, which was a real treat as the on,y one we'd seen in India was at the Zoological Park in Darjeeling. The staff are nice. Unfortunately there aren't enough of them working to keep the weeds down and keep... More

One had visited the garden decades ago when it used to be maintained well and a popular attraction. But this time, in Jan 2014, it was a great disappointment. Though the new centenary gate from Andul road was close to the city and access from the new Hoogly Bridge easy, the great garden was shorn of its beauty; the neglect... More

Not maintained at all. Weeds and grasses growing everywhere. No sign boards mentioning names of different trees. You don't get any knowledge of ant tree, you don't even know which tree you are watching. It is just used by couples.

The Botanic garden is situated beside the Ganges river on the opposite banks of Kolkata. The 2nd hooghly bridge allows the fastest route to reach there in less than half an hour from the heart of Kolkata. The Garden is full of extraordinary trees and plants but what en-thrills all the most is the Great Banyan tree - more than... More

It's almost the single most green area to visit in Calcutta. It gives a complete experience of both knowledge and fun about the world of plants and trees on earth. Excellent place for the travelers and not to miss it. I enjoyed a lot there.

However do not compare with botanical gardens in Europe or US! If you want to escape from noise, dirt and crowd it is a nice place to relax and having a rest. But do not expect rare plants and flowers.

i saw a picture of the gardens, and all i wanted to see was the large floating, plate-like leaves, that i think they are called Australian water-lilly (Nymphaea gigantea) i never seen such a huge water plant, so i was very curious, but when we got there, we walked all around the park, and never found it, (one of the...
