The toy train joyride can be touted by many as a must do on any Darjeeling trip. Beware! it is not worth the money you will spend on this two hour drag. Until a few months ago this ride was only Rs 250 or 300. Now you will end up spending about Rs 600 for a diesel loco ride or... More

Travelled from Kurseong to Darjeeling on 22nd May, 2015. Prior Booking of the train is essential as tickets are not available, moreover it is train of 4 bogies. There are two types of engines diesel & steam engine. For Steam Engine, you need to catch toy train from Ghoom while for diesel Engine you can take from Kurseong. Though steam... More

If you are affected by coal burning smell and smoke, this won't be pleasant ride. We were allocated seats automatically on online booking. If you happen to get seats away from valley then it becomes a disappointing ride. Problem may not lie with the train but the view of unclean lanes is disturbing.

I wonder, why people didn't ask Spielberg on making movie on extinct species of Dinosaurs . We paid 600 bucks to see the movie and paid another 500 bucks on Popcorn and Pepsi. Yet we enjoyed. The movie took us to the past, however we think of 600 bucks is a waste on a toy train ride which is driven... More

There are 2 types of rides available. The first one is powered by steam engine which holds the world heritage tag. The second type of ride is the one powered by diesel locomotive. The steam engine one charges are 1100 per person for to and fro journey and there is no concessional fare for kids. The journey takes approximately 2... More

The steam engine ride was good as we had our 3 yrs old son with us..He enjoyed it, but 2 hrs round trip is little too much with all the noise and coal and steam coming out. We had a cloudy day so were not able to enjoy the mountain view. Ghoom station was good..nothing much to see in the... More

If you are a crazy nature lover, then this ride is meant for you. The breathtaking views will surely give you the return on your money. Although the traveling time is a little more as compared to that by the road, yet the time is worth spending.

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, known affectionately as the Toy Train, made its first journey along its precipice-topping, 2ft-wide tracks in September 1881 and is one of the few hill railways still operating in India. It's even listed as a Unesco World Heritage site. Besides its regular diesel and steam service to/from Kurseong, there are joy rides during high season that... More

The toy train tracks are alongside the road, so you get the the same scenic views driving into Darjeeling But for those who would like to experience the historic bit, it does take you back in time Book the tickets in advance as they get sold out soon The public bathrooms at the station are filthy and the station too...
