If you are a crazy nature lover, then this ride is meant for you. The breathtaking views will surely give you the return on your money. Although the traveling time is a little more as compared to that by the road, yet the time is worth spending.

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, known affectionately as the Toy Train, made its first journey along its precipice-topping, 2ft-wide tracks in September 1881 and is one of the few hill railways still operating in India. It's even listed as a Unesco World Heritage site. Besides its regular diesel and steam service to/from Kurseong, there are joy rides during high season that... More

The toy train tracks are alongside the road, so you get the the same scenic views driving into Darjeeling But for those who would like to experience the historic bit, it does take you back in time Book the tickets in advance as they get sold out soon The public bathrooms at the station are filthy and the station too... The team maintaining the locomotive and staff were very good. Just go to c the engine working and the staff team putting in effort. They must be complemented and appreciated. But the filthy station makes our heads hang in shame. In contrast sikkim was surprisingly clean everywhere, the moment we entered west Bengal scenario changed visibly so in your face..... More

I loved the toy train! I felt like a 6 years old kid in Disneyland. The experience is so authentic and fun despite the rainy and cloudy weather. I advise you to get a window seat on the right direction (towards the mountains view) and to book in advance. I got seat 24 on carriage 2, which was perfect. You... More

If are planning to visit darjeeling then it can not get better than a toy train journey and that too if it is of the steam engine type. Those engines have become obsolete now but they still run there but only weekly once. You need to book well in advance as the tickets are always in demand. Then you can... More

The Toy Train is a true marvel of engineering. It revives history of early transportation in Darjeeling. The run is about 2 hours with a brief stop at the Ghoom museum and then return back. Yes, it does run on coal, so if you have dislike coal smoke then avoid peeking out of the window/door. The ride takes along some... More

A marvel of history so well preserved that its hard to believe. The Toy train ride, though could seem a bit costly, as the steam engine train ride of 2 hours cost you 1090 rupees per head, but she's worth every penny. The feel, the noise of engine whistle, the exhaust strokes of engine, the retro feeling, simply doesnt go... More

A true visit to the past as we traveled on this small train (we took the trip from Darjeeling up the mountain and back). It's showing a little age--but then it's a 100 years old. India time schedules and train amenities are not what we are used to in America--but we didn't expect it to be! Beautiful views of the... More

The toy train of Darjeeling was not a pleasant visit for us as it was heavy rain outside and the atmosphere inside becomes bit humid and smelly. The smoke from the engine will be unpleasant if you are occupied in the first couple of coaches. If you have visited Simla train or the Ooty Mountain train you can very well... More
