The variety of animals at Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park is enormous. The main attractions would be the elusive snow leopard and Red Panda. The birds and other mammals too are a definite attraction.

The Zoo and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute's Everest Museum are located on the same grounds with a single entrance fee of 100 IR. You should plan on at least 1 1/2 to 2 hours to see everything. The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute's Everest Museum was very interesting with two floors of historical data, pictures, models and gear from Mount Everest climbing... More

It was an adventurous trip to say the least. Monkeys are loose and all over the place. One "enterprising/entrepreneurial" monkey "literally" grabbed and ran with my 2 liter bottle of mango juice. That was the highlight of our Zoological park visit! Monkey 1--Me 0--monkey wins--hehe--monkey power :)

A great zoo with an incredible variety of species on show, and you can tell that the animals are well looked after. Some of the big cats need a little more space, however.

This zoo is on top of the mountain and before the entrance of HMI. I was very delighted to see all the rare beautiful animals. It is very important to remain silent all along ur visit because that is when you can observe the animals behaviour the best. A very well maintained zoo.

This site combines access to the zoo and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute for foreigner fee of 100 rupees, which is a good deal. It's about a 30 minute walk from the centre of Darjeeling, and 20 minutes past the bus stand. The zoo/HMI site is not huge, which justifies the low price, and makes for a sufficient 2-3 hour visit. Located adjacent to the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoo is a unique Zoo. It is situated at an altitude of 2133.5 meters against the glorious background of the majestic Kanchenjunga.
