Its a nice place to visit. Watch out for the greenery. The original mixed forests in Darjeeling that was destroyed by the Britishers is retained in this park. The park is now better managed than I saw in first some 35 years ago. But some enclosures like that of Jackal should be made bigger. On the flipside, the shouts and... More

A pleasant walk from town (1/2 hour tops). Inhabited by species native to the Himalaya. Performs breeding of threatened species. Local Indian visitors shout and yell at the animals to get their attention for photographs, despite signs requesting silence. Himalayan Mountaineering Institute is inside the zoo. One combined admission covers both. Allow one hour for each.

Better than most zoos in India because it maintains the natural ecology of the animals. Neat, clean, well-maintained with alert staff. Himalayan bears & snow leopards are some of the most notable guests.

Most of the animals were in semi- natural confines. Highlights were the snow leopard, Bengal tiger, Red Pandas and beautiful birds. Overall, lots to see in a fairly short pleasant walking distance.

This got to be one of the best and unique zoo I ever visited... seen lots of them across the country - starting from Kolkata to Bangalore, Mysore, Chennai... some big, some small, but none with a Red Panda... Yes - that's a major attraction... and there are many of them - in close quarters, enjoying their life eating bamboo... More
