The Mahananda Forest is extensive and runs right from the plains of Bengal up to the hills near Kalimpong. The wildlife department has entry points at diiferent places and, depending on the altitude, the flora and fauna you spot differ. Chapramari is in the plains near Chalsa, less than a couple of hours from Siliguri

We were supposed to at Bandipur National Park in Karnataka. But our 'Lady Luck' had a different idea in store for us. Our train tickets were not confirmed and we had to return from Howrah Railway Station with a heavy heart. We kept our luggage unpacked, hoping for a miracle. Bingo! There it was! Like a sudden thunderbolt in the... More

The forest at Chapramari has this wonderful advantage - it's very close to civilization and yet appears to be entirely remote and isolated once you're inside. You may or may not sight game here but that's actually besides the point. This forest was like a rare green gem glittering in the cold winter sunlight when we were there. The view... More

To enjoy this small reserve forest you must stay at the beautiful FRHouse there. Booking may be done thru the Forest Dept. This is not for people who want a lot of activities. It is a boon for forest and nature lovers. Just sit on the wide varandah of the FRH, In front is the Chapramari Glade, ending at the distant... The sanctuary is located very close to the passing National Highway, and although having a very close proximity to human settlements, it offers lush green trees and shrubs which are a magnificent sight. There is no cell phone receptivity inside the jungle and that's actually a boon, considering the environment around you. Sighting of animals is based on your luck... More

Chapramari Wildlife Santuary located in the Dooars is best visited fro Lataguri, where there are several hotels - we stayed at the Green Lagoon. Unfortunately, despite hours of driving through the jungle we were unable to see any "Big" game.

We were alone all the time, for this easy walk in the middle of a majestic and untouched forest, the trees so huge that it was just like having a walk in the middle of a fairy tale
