It was then rebuilt by the British in 1893. The imposing structure reaches a height of 155 feet and emanates peace and architectural splendor with its tall spires over the tomb of the saint. The sea makes a wonderful backdrop to the pristine white structure. The San Thome Church is considered one of the pilgrimages for people around the world. « less

Cool place to go while in Chennai. Not every day you get to see a church which one of the twelve apostles founded. Very interesting and well worth the time.

Beautiful example of a Catholic Church in Mylapore in Chennai. Off the road so there is little noise, inside is calm, peaceful and serene. Lovely to walk around outside of the church. Recommend to visit this.

Beautiful building! Lovely combination of cultural heritage and Catholic history. Liturgies are said in multiple languages, and masses run every hour (so, the change over between services is short and can be difficult to negotiate). The tomb is worth the time to visit (entrance at the building at the back of the Church). The gift shop is extensive - worth... More

Unique inside the church are the short stories on each of the apostles and their lives. The image of Our Lady of Mylapore and its story is also interesting.

After the stress and hassle of the Kapaleeswarar Temple, this was a welcome relief, calm and serene, even though there was a service on. A full church with Mass in Tamil but really welcoming. Outside it's a spectacular building, nice place to relax.

You must go to see this historic church. The structure is beautiful. The Sunday Service is inspiring and the atmosphere is calm and peaceful. Not to mention the importance of the Tomb of St. Thomas. Amazing.

It's great to look around this beautiful church. I just realized that it was the place where St. Thomas -one of the twelves apostles- died and his body was interred there after I came back to my country. Since I didn't step inside the church or the tomb, I thought it's only a church named St. Thomas :(( Someday will... More
