It was then rebuilt by the British in 1893. The imposing structure reaches a height of 155 feet and emanates peace and architectural splendor with its tall spires over the tomb of the saint. The sea makes a wonderful backdrop to the pristine white structure. The San Thome Church is considered one of the pilgrimages for people around the world. « less

We spent some time in that church since it is sometimes hard to find that in India. Gothic style and took some very nice pictures from there.

Being a borderline atheist I never bothered visiting this place until recently and it was a beautiful experience. Weekday morning, after a long photo walk, I went in to get some photos. I found a beautiful piece of Chennai history history and went home with a sense of having discovered a must see place in Chennai

Though I had heard of this church in the past, the true importance of the shrine hit home when I visited it. To imagine that the remains of one of Jesus's apostles are interred here is astounding. My French colleague who visited with me was astonished that he hadn't heard of this shrine before, and mentioned that there were only... More

This is a neat stop, just to say that you saw it. Sadly, this place lacks historical evidence and it misses out on opportunities to tell the story of Thomas and Jesus. Was disappointed that they wouldn't allow photos (even when we were the only ones there). You would think they would want to make this more memorable by allowing... More

A place worth spending time in.Adice that all visitors entering the Church take off the shops/slippers. It is not compulsory but I was caught out and had to exit the main Church
