I really enjoy taking all of my visiting friends to the Sakshi Block Printing Factory. It is such an old trade here in Rajasthan that is neat to see still being made. The tour itself is free of cost. You and your friends will get to stamp out your own animal block print. So if you love elephants, or peacocks,... More

When traveling, I like to see people and what they do more than monuments, forts, temples, etc. At Sakshi, located in Sanganer just outside of Jaipur we were shown and explained how the blue pottery is made and how the hand block textiles are printed. Both are very complex processes and it is mind boggling to see how it is... More

Unfortunately when we visited it was on a national holiday so all the workers had a day off, however we were ushered into the shop - where a making a purchase seemed mandatory unfortunately.

Jaipuri blankets made live in front of you. They will show you how to make block prints and then you can also go on to buy the rajais (blankets) if you like them. They come in wide varieties and have a wide price range too. They weigh just 100 gms, yeah, I know it is not believable if you do... More

I had seen something similar in Indonesia so I was no impressed, but it is something to see and if you go on a tour they will probably make you stop at one, so might as well enjoy it for what you can.

Loved the block printing (took a short course and truly wished I had the week to spend time taking a longer session), a traditional craft with exquisite results. The owner rescued me after I suffered an allergic reaction to an insect bite sending out someone to buy medicine and serving me tea while I recovered. The crafts here are amazing... More

Travelling just oustside the city of Jaipur is Bundi where you can see hand block priting being done by local artisans. The fabric is laid out on long tables, usually 5 mt lengths and is then hand block printed with up to four colours with four different blocks, it is done accurately with great speed. It is then removed from... More
