One of the most scenic travel routes in India. It is a long route connecting small towns and big cities on the Konkan coast of western India covering the states of Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka. The train travels along the scenic mountains of Western Ghats, beautiful coasts, picturesque villages and long tunnels, which are the highlight of the journey!

Train travel in India is often associated with stress, apprehension, anticipation, disappointment and at times, joy. A dipstick and here is what transpired.... Comprising of a minimum of 12-30 hours of travel on average, you desperately seek some peace and tranquility as you unwind with a book, listen to music or just plan look out the window when on a... We went to Goa from Mumbai and back by Konkan Railway. Travelled to Karmali by Jan shatabdi express. But if you want to go to South Goa like us, choosing Janshatabdi was not a wise decision as we had to pay Rs 840 to go to Colva beach. For North Goa, get down at Thivim and that should be good.... What we perceive as 1st class a/c has no resemblance of 1st class although the a/c worked too well with no control, do not expect to be alone as the compartments house 4 bunks and normally they are occupied. Also by going at night you do miss some of the countryside but seeing as by the time we woke up... More

Konkan belt starts from Roha to mangalore, frequent trains are available from mumbai (Panvel). There are several hill places like ratnagiri, rajapur road, thivim. We can see valley while going thru train, especially in season like winter, we can see water flows rally excellent. Goa is also excellent place to must see.
