The coastal region of Maharashtra is very different from the western ghat highlands near Pune or the hinterland of the Deccan plateau in Vidharba region. There are numerous beaches stretching from Alibaug in the north upto Sindhudurg near Goa in south. Must visit are the admirable sea fortresses.

Situated at Taj President hotel so was a bit of travel to get there but well worth it! Very good freshly prepared food. Good variety on the menu. Seafood was great. Fresh hot jalebi's were a treat. Well recommended.

What we perceive as 1st class a/c has no resemblance of 1st class although the a/c worked too well with no control, do not expect to be alone as the compartments house 4 bunks and normally they are occupied. Also by going at night you do miss some of the countryside but seeing as by the time we woke up... More
