We have lived in Aamchee (‘our’) Mumbai for long and know it like the back of our hand ! So we venture down small lanes to find stuff that otherwise just doesn’t get discovered. You will be in for many a surprise – plenty of amazing and varied stuff, people and activities! We, at Be The Local, work to support local full time students in pursuing higher education as well. We achieve this by simply offering them employment in our company and training them to be our ‘tour guides’. This gives the students two very distinct benefits. One is that they are able to receive sustainable income to support themselves in education and second is that it boosts their self-esteem and self-confidence, as they meet widely travelled and experienced tourists. Being The Local, we can offer you a fascinating ‘getaway’ that gives you a ringside view of the ‘madness and magic’ of MUMBAI – the living city that ‘never sleeps’!

My husband and I recently did the tour of the Dharavi slum and it was one of the best tours we have done. Our guide, Muzaffar was excellent, professional and very informative. Having guides who are students is such a fantastic idea. We were met at our hotel by Muzaffar and then went to the train station where we caught... More

The so called "slam" is a must in Mumbai and best is to go with a local. The guys from Be the local arranged a guide for me within an hour for which i am thankful since I did not called previous day to arange a tour. Very informed and funny my guide, Razz. Recommended

Be the local tours has insights into Dharavi that almost no others can as they are locals of Dharavi. Their enthusiasm and knowledge is fantastic and I would highly recommend that everyone visiting or living in Bombay should take their tour.

We didn't know what to expect with our booking through one of Bombay's "slum" tour guide companies, but were pleasantly surprised by the end of our afternoon trip. Our guide Razak, was a Dharavi resident, who met us at Churchgate train station, and then escorted us into one of the largest slums in the world - a place almost described... More

We had a young student - Arjun take us around the sights of Mumbai. He was very kind, pleasant and knowledgable. We were able to shape the tour to meet our specific desires and timeframe. The best possible way to see Mumbai in our opinion. In all, we spent a little over 3 hours seeing great things we would never... More

Dharavi is a must see for everyone coming from the developed countries. We have to be conscious every day, how lucky we are. If you think, your life is miserably, just go to Dharavi and see, how people work for their living. A “little bit harder” then we do at home... We had a very nice guide, who spoke good... More

Visiting the Daravi slums with a personal guide - a student that was born and growen up in Daravi was a great experiance. Salmam our guide was great explaing a different point of view of what we were seeing, for me it was one of my highlights in India. and it is also for a good cause - helping to... More

It should be said clearly: this is an amazing and most significant experience, a "must" for every human being, especially from the West, in Bombay. Seeing Dharavi with our brilliant guide Salim was a perfect treat shttering all the potential cliches regarding "slum" life. We were taken to a short encounter with a community that labors hard to make a... More

We wanted a full day tour of Mumbai, seeing it all in its natural state, and the TajMahal Palace hotel suggested that we use this company. What a great experience!! Our guide was Arjun Maytri, an electrical engineering student, and extremely knowledgeable about Mumbai. We started at the Gateway to India, went to the incredible fish market, the laundry, the...
