A trip to Shimla is not complete without a journey on the toy train, view is stunning the small stations along the way are very cute. The carriages on the trains vary a bit, we got the worst one with "Basil Fawlty" as our carriage attendant things like "can we have a spoon to stir our coffee" replied to with... More

I travel in Kalka Shimla toy train on 16th Aug 14. This was a unique experience to travel in a train on hills. This train runs very slow so that one can have full enjoyment of incredible views of Himalaya. It was a rainy season ans so we were travelling with clouds. Clouds were entered in our train and the... I got the Shivalix Deluxe Express from Kalka to Shimla with two colleagues. A fantastic experience with breath taking views and would highly recommend. This particular train seemed to be more comfortable than others I saw which had more bench like seats. Found it to be a relatively comfortable ride.

When I took this train ride from Shimla to Kalka, I wondered why I had not done so till now. It is a ride that brings you closer to nature. The monsoon had turned the entire route green and the weather salubrious. When it drizzled on the way, I could feel the droplets on my face. I was relieved I... More

People who love nature please make advance reservation with spelling of "SIMLA" to Kalka not Shimla to Kalka be careful. 5 or 6 hours patience required and no place to keep heavy luggage in this toy Train. Avoid Sunday due to heavy rush of Local Crowd.

With this trip I have now completed all the three heritage mountain railway trips - Ooty, Simla and Darjeeling. Each one is a one of kind experience. The Train ride from Shimla to Kalka is a long one with over a 100 tunnels and is the Indian version of the Harry Potter Train ride. Although you will miss the chug-chug... More

The 94 km long, 2'6" gauge rail way having 103 tunnels, 864 bridges and 20 stations has spectacular scenery along the whole route, and the marvels of its construction, keeps the traveler on this line spell bound. On leaving Kalka, 656 meters (2,152 ft) above sea level, the railway enters the foothills and immediately commences its climb and reaches Shimla... More

Along long journey from Kalka up to Shimla, passing through numerous tunnels, many bridges, and offering some spectacular views throughout. You might not want to do the whole journey by train but I did and enjoyed it throughout.
