I am lucky enough to have travelled on three of India's famous hill railways, all of which have their own quirks. My group chartered two of the railcars, one of which promptly broke down at the first station. Once a fitter got there it didn't take long to repair, but by then we had lost our path so the journey... More

We had done trips by 'toy trains' elsewhere but this was disappointing, athough it probably remains something you 'must do'. Yes the views were lovely and it is a remarkable feat of engineering but.... It was very crowded and there was nowhere to put luggage. The worst was the fact that the seats were so uncomfortable and it is a... More

This train was what we most looked forward to on our holiday, having watched all the TV programmes about it on the BBC. We travelled standard class in a tiny & crowded carriage on this narrow gauge railway (we later found there was also a first class section with comfy seats). This meant 5 hours sitting on hard bench seats.... More

It is very nice to take a stroll in the evenings. The food is really tasty and a lot to taste. The market is vibrant... More

Train ride is interesting. Nice views. Booking and riding procedures are complicated. Train details are not correct. Please call in advance to confirm. Full ride is long. Not much space to store luggage in the train. Book separate ticket for kids to have enough space.

Not everyday you get invited to travel to Shimla for work, and hence the opportunity to travel on one of *the* train journeys. I would be discovered with two other delegates, having met up in Chandigarth - well worth visiting btw. Our host had booked us into the Rail Car which was scheduled to leave at 5.10am, 20 minutes before... More

If your journey started in Delhi then wrap up warm, the best seats in my opinion are on the right in the direction of travel. Rember you will be sitting on hard upright seats for some five hours. Anybody can be uncomfortable so plan ahead but keep hand baggage to a minimum. Loads of beautiful views so keep the camera... More

The experience is unforgettable, the journey is bit long but one can decide to hop on or hop off mid way and enjoy the train ride.
