Kalka to Shimla takes 5 long hours.A 90 degree face to face bench padded seats(seats 2..1 if you are large). Small leg room about 3', uncomfortable,no space for luggage, tiny smelly squat toilets., use the ones at stations they are cleaner if not best.Foods were available on the many stops. View during journey can be interesting and beautiful, we were... More

It has bathrooms available.Breakfast is also served at Barog station.Seats are also very comfortable. Beauty of the seats is that it can be turned both sides. The other toy train Railmotor has 1 boggy and has no toilets.

Its a very good ride to travel from Kalka to Shimla through toy train . though its take a long time to reach shimla ( almost 5 hrs from Kalka ) but u enjoy better than taxi ride. So many tunnels & so many bridges comes in the way. Also official stoppage of the train but we really enjoyed. If... More

So we followed all the advice and took the toy train from Shimla to Kulka. Though the view is nice and was much calmer then the taxi its not really worth it. It was extremely slow and crowded. There was no place for anyone's luggage and all the road food was definitely not geared toward tourists. And then as you... More

This summer we experience our first toy train ride from Shimla to Kalka, and was wonderful journey on world heritage route. We have booked Himalayan queen train from both side but as suggested on forum, we made it one way so we enjoyed and best panned our time in Shimla. Thanks to Mr Ashis Roy for advice. Train was neat... More

Lovely experience travelling through the hills without motion sickness. Pity is train does not keep proper time, and other travellers tend to keep spitting out of the window. Cannot travel with large suitcases as the train has not place to store.

The Kalka–Shimla Railway was built to connect Shimla, the summer capital of India during the British Raj, with the Indian rail system. Now, Shimla is the capital city of Himachal Pradesh and Kalka is a town in the Panchkula district of Haryana. The route is famous for its scenery and improbable construction.

I did enjoy my "toy train ride" ....mostly, I went on the "Himalayan Queen" and this train has many stops, which at least gives you the chance to get out and walk a few minutes - altogether beautiful scenery, but nearly 5 hours of it is long! I would recommend to do only part of it, passengers were boarding all... More

We reached Kalka by Shatabdi and then boarded Himalayan Queen toy train. It was sunny and hot day. The train is not airconditioned. I was aware that the most views shall be on right side but unfortunately our seats were on left side. When train started its journey we enjoyed valleys, hills and lush green forests from where it passes... More
