The Old fort has a 1.9 km perimeter along the water and the zoo. Very convenient to start your day of sightseeing: opens at 9am, no crowd, 100 INR for foreigners. Informative signs bilingual. Some areas at the back where staff "established their living quarters" may be less desirable with children. Some construction ongoing in Feb 2015.

Purana Qila (the old fort) is set in vast landscaped rubbish strewn grounds and where you can see the many and varied boarded up buildings. The Qala-i-Kuhna Masjid was a grandiose mosque, Sher Sher Mandal an octagonal pavilion, Sher Mandal a library, Talaqui Darwaza the Northern gate are only some of the buildings. These are constructed out of red sandstone... More

It should in top list for a tourist. Trust me its a very beautiful place .The nearest metro station is PRAGATI MAIDAN. It also houses a light& sound show in the evening. The ambience is good. Entry fees 10/- (for Indians).

Despite the monsoon rains, I really enjoyed wandering around the complex and seeing the architecture. Would've explored the grounds more if I wasn't clinging to my umbrella!

This was an impressive site, but busy with Indian tourists, and we seemed to have chosen a time to go (late afternoon) when groups of young men gathered. This was one of only two places in India (the other was Qutub Minar) where my friend attracted a lot of unwanted attention from young Indian men - normally this could be... More
