Art lovers from all countries will enjoy visiting this spacious, airy and beautifully designed gallery. Among the excellent exhibits which might be less known outside India are impressive works by Jamini Roy and Amrita Sher-Gil. There are comfortable seats inside and a shop, with English-speaking staff, selling prints and postcards. The cost is 110 rupees for non-Indians, less for full-time... More

From the little tour I had of this place I found assorted paintings by various artists and sculptures, outside there was a display of structures made from utensils which was enticing..

I didn't know anything about Indian painting before visiting this museum and thus was quite surprised to find such a vibrant contemporary art scene. There are many mandala like, and spiritual inspired works the like of which you won't see in museums in Europe. The museum also has a large collection 19th century works but I didn't like these so... The NGMA has an extraordinary collection of not only modern art works of contemporary Indian artists, but also has a section on art works and etchings of colonial artists who painted on life during the British rule. It is recommended to visit this place with a lot of time to spare.

I came here toward the end of the day so only had time to visit the new building. I very much appreciated its organized layout and progression from older works on the lower floors to newest ones on the upper floors. The juxtaposition of Indian and British artists was interesting, but I enjoyed the Indian art the most. Few sculptures in... More

Watch out for sculptures on the ground floor, they are good. Bottom floors have traditional paintings which are modest, but the real thing comes in upper floors. It was relief to see some abstract and experimental works by Indian artists, particularly by "Indian Turks". One more exhibition is in work.

Skip the boring bottom floors near entrance all about the Brits and Europe bla bla and head straight for upstairs Block 2 area and save your energy cause the place is overloaded with everything you don't get to see about modern art in India. From the hilarious (check out Atul Dodiya's "Tomb's Day" series) to pop art (huge 1950's style... More

This place offers another perspective of Delhi and India's history, once you've visited all touristic sites. The pieces are beautiful, but I would concurr that the curators need to improve. The lighting is poor, the placement hard to follow, and there is no narrative in most of the galleries. There are mainly paintings in this museum. Finally, I thought the... More

Outside India it is nearly impossible to see even reproductions of works by modern and contemporary Indian artists, and this gallery houses some great ones. I found some of the works displayed in its permanent collection amazing the first time I saw them. Now I've been several times when visiting Delhi, and had a chance to see two special exhibitions... The gallery has a most interesting permanent collection, running from very good colonial artists, right up to the present day. There are some stunning Indian artists, who deserve to be much better known. There is inevitably, a fair measure of dross. But the curation is very poor - for instance no dates on many paintings, so it is impossible to... More
