Thoroughly enjoyed my trip to the National Gallery of Modern Art. While there aren't exactly Picasso's or Van Gogh's on display, I learnt a great deal about ho Art in India over the last couple centuries developed from earlier forms of miniature portraits to more symbolistic, contemporary art. To my surprise, it was even free for non-Nationals!

This is a must do for anyone who appreciates art. We started at the basement level, which had an exhibit titled 'Remembering Amrita Sher-gil'. This was beautiful, filled with wonderful portraits, nudes and self-portraits which were so filled with sensuality and emotion that it was hard to believe Amrita was only 28 when she died. There were 4 more levels... More

We went to NGMA last weekend to view the retrospective exhibition of Architect Prof BV Doshi. Additionally, there was the complete collection of Amrita Shergil on display as well. This was superb.

The gallery has an amazing collection of paintings and art pieces. Paintings dating back to the British era will leave you awe struck. 200 year old paintings have been maintained in their pristine condition. Hats off to the curator of the gallery. The art works displayed out in the open are amazing.

The highlight of my trip to Delhi. Well maintained buildings, the contemporary art collection included an amazing permanent exhibition for Amrita Sher Gil, an Indian artist that I did not know. Having spent so long admiring her work I had little time to explore the other buildings. Something to do when I visit again. The printing history building was also... More

After the old fashion, dirty National Museum, this place was a releave. Its collection is presented in a modern way. It is so good to walk around there. All facilities for people in a wheelchair, older people. I saw two amazing exhibitions: Amirta Sher-Gil / Architect Dorshi

We loved the National Gallery of Modern Art. Extensive collection and we could have spent a couple of days there. Excellent examples of contemporary Indian art and curated well to show each artist's oeuvre. Don't think of getting a coffee or eating there - the cafe is a staff canteen with a bucket of rice, one of dhal and a... More
