A fantastic collection, displayed over hundreds of square-feet of real-estate, lavishly spread out over three floors. However, the very dim-set lighting makes for a depressing ambiance. The mood of all art is not necessarily melancholy; but that is how it has been displayed. At it's best, moods could have been segregated and the displays lit-up in that manner. All in... More

I have visited this place many times over the years, and every time I find some improvement. The last time I went was for the centenary exhibition of Amrita Shergill which was for a limited period. It was held in the basement of the NGMA, very well exhibited and at the time we went which was in the morning not... More

What a relaxing visit! We walked through the amazing collection of Indian artists.....sat and talked on the comfy chairs throughout the gallery....and thoroughly relaxed all afternoon. Welcoming, easy to explore, and quiet oasis of culture and art! A nice little shop as well-- prints, postcards, etc. DEFINITELY make a visit.

We debated whether to visit the NGMA and were very glad we did. We really enjoyed the Subodh Gupta exhibit at the Jaipur House as well as the Amrita Sher-Gil exhibit and the permanent collection in the new building. The permanent collection spans a couple of centuries so not all the art is modern. There are some good contemporary works.

Art lovers from all countries will enjoy visiting this spacious, airy and beautifully designed gallery. Among the excellent exhibits which might be less known outside India are impressive works by Jamini Roy and Amrita Sher-Gil. There are comfortable seats inside and a shop, with English-speaking staff, selling prints and postcards. The cost is 110 rupees for non-Indians, less for full-time... More

From the little tour I had of this place I found assorted paintings by various artists and sculptures, outside there was a display of structures made from utensils which was enticing..

I didn't know anything about Indian painting before visiting this museum and thus was quite surprised to find such a vibrant contemporary art scene. There are many mandala like, and spiritual inspired works the like of which you won't see in museums in Europe. The museum also has a large collection 19th century works but I didn't like these so... The NGMA has an extraordinary collection of not only modern art works of contemporary Indian artists, but also has a section on art works and etchings of colonial artists who painted on life during the British rule. It is recommended to visit this place with a lot of time to spare.
