We are jaded travelers. Lanyu is a nice island but go visit Azores for some spectacular volcanic island views. The villages in Lanyu are really ugly except one with a few underground houses still left. Food in the winter is rare and expensive. We stayed in Hongtau village in Meni's Place and had good time. My husband is temporarily disabled,... More

Beautiful and remote Orchid Island (Lanyu), fly or ferry from Taitung. Many homestay options, I would recommend strongly Mrs Snow @ New Guluhoemstay, fantastic home-cooked food and lots of great advise.

Wow! Descending with a small plane from Daily Air to Lanyu / Orchid Island is really spectacular and definitely worth the hassle of booking flights on a Chinese only website. The island itself gives you the feeling that you are far away from the world you know, also because of the Tao inhabitants. The densely forested green island offers spectacular... More

Mountains, Ocean views and friendly people a beautiful island. Took the plane ride to the island, a little shaky but fun. Scooter ride was neat, stopped many times looking at old buildings. Quieter then Green Island and less busy. One thing to remember is show up for your plane ride home at least half hour before or they will give... More

We loved visiting Lanyu, also known as Orchid Island. It looked like a cross between Hawaii and a tropical Scotland with it's volcanic coastline and green, green, green interior. We stayed in one of the homestays recommended in the Lonely Planet guidebook: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/taiwan/taiwans-islands/lanyu/hotels/enhui-mingsu-zijia Li Ge and Li Sao were great hosts. They don't speak English, but were expressive enough for... More

This island is way more wild than Green Island, and completely worth your visit. The waters are a variety of blue and the island itself is incredibly green. There are local villages dotted around and still underground dwellings. Coffee shops, restaurants and bars are frequently found along the island and are quite spectacularly decorated. The local food mostly consists of... More

We visited Lanyu in November which is off season .So it was very quiet. We could not find the accomodation beforehand as it was very limited on internet so we arrived there ,expecting tourist information could help us to find one. No one at information! But instead, police called around and found the guest house for us, whose host is... More

I visited there in summer time. The weather is so hot there. The sky and sea was clear blue and I feel totally different from what I've experienced in California Islands, Florida Islands, and Hawaii Islands. The people here are passionate (comparing to Hawaii's people are going toward getting your money). The view was great. The sea food and all... More

Great getaway from those who want a retreat to nature, 2 and a half month stay with surreal panoramas on a daily basis. Much fewer built up areas than nearby Taitung or even Green Island, but it is made up for by markedly more impressive landscapes, mountains half a kilometre high reach up right against the coastline. Excellent scuba diving/snorkelling,... More

The island is not big, rental a motorcycle and go around the island slowly. Lots of goats and pigs on the road, with wonderful and friendly people on the west side on the island. The people and villages on the east seems more original and natural, with very few shops and restaurants. Go diving and snorkeling, the water is clear... More
