The lake is beautiful if you haven't seen many other beautiful lakes already. You should stay at Sun Moon Lake for one day to see the sunset and sunrise. The cable is closed on 4pm so you should ride it first (if buying the package). The bus takes almost 2 hours so plan the trip carefully

The name suggest a pristine or mystical quality, however it is anything but. The first thing that took me out of the experience was noticing the lake has dozens of dirty, smoke-spewing boats constantly crossing it. More than that, bottles, piece of trash and slime drifts against the docks with each wave. Surrounding the lake are half built construction sites... More

The lake is nice, but at some places a garbage dump. We have made a bike tour around the lake and we are glad to be still alive! From the about 30 km you have to bike about 20 km over the subway: up and down, up and down with the speedy cars next to you..

The views of the lake are simply breathtaking! We stayed for three days and totally enjoyed it here. Going on the ferry, we visited the other side of the lake and walked up to Wen Wu Temple. Another place to visit by ferry is the Formosan Aboriginal Cultural Village. We loved cycling around the lake on the lovely bike path.... More

This is a must visit for first-time visitors in Taiwan. A very beautiful lake.. We took a ferry ride to go to the stop area where you can climb a hill, buy a famous tea-infused egg and some local fruits while enjoying the peaceful scenery and clean air.

What an amazing world wonder! I visited on a humid rainy day and the lake was absolutely beautiful as it was shrouded in mist. I can imagine it to be just as beautiful on a clear day however the day I went gave it such mystery! I'd suggest a ferry ride with tour guide to understand the full functions of... More

The Sun Moon Lake is Nature's Marvel and one must not miss this at all during their trip to Taiwan. My personal suggestion would be to stay overnight and enjoy the beautiful sunset and sunrise over the lake. The lake has very clear water and the water is recycled with the near by river. The water is connected from underwater... More

We did not find this lake to be particularly picturesque. But the ferry ride is fairly entertaining because the guides are funny. But otherwise, I would not rate this as a top attraction. The town of Ita Thao is small, with a leisurely pace and some street food but otherwise, fairly uneventful.
