The lake provide a nice scenery, other than that, not worth the time and effort to visit. Too commercialize and flooded with tourists and certain religious group "silent protest cum propaganda" to Chinese. It doesn't matter where you are from, so long as you look Chinese they are targeting you.

Sun Moon Lake is one of the most popular tourist attractions for tourists from PRC. I can say 7 out of 10 tourists visiting Sun Moon Lake are from Mainland China with the remaining coming from Japan, Korea, or local cities in Taiwan. This has lead Sun Moon Lake been overloaded. In some popular sightseeing points, e.g. Syuanguang Temple, you... More

Three of us went on a trip visiting Taiwan in the month of June. The weather was great that day hence a bit hot. Sun Moon Lake has been known to be overly occupied by Chinese Tourist, however, we were very lucky that day. We bought the Sun Moon Lake package which includes the round trip bus from Taichung, the... More

Beautiful lake with many stories, but personally, it has been a little overhyped. worth the trip there still though. Do note that you'd have to take a ferry ride to all three different docks to see most of the lakes and its surrounding attractions. One of the docks has a stall that sells tea eggs, you gotta try! its the... More

Been to sun moon lake twice during enroute to other parts of taiwan. First visit i went to the Ci-en pagoda and Lalu hotel, nothing extra ordinary just a normal lake surrounded by mountains. Then second visit we went we skipped the boat tour as it is over packed with tourists. The lake is the same no wow factor. But... More

Yes it's beautiful, so many activities, but so many peoples, and tourist boats crossing the lake, i don't think it's a must.

Their cycling trails are probably one of the best with breathtaking scenery. Just becareful during peak seasons, some part of the tracks are not guarded.

We went for a boat trip across the lake and the locations on the lake are relaxing and pleasant places to visit and browse among local shops and restaurants. The views from the shore and also from the boat are well worth seeing

We visited Sun Moon Lake on our way to Cingjing. It was nice and calm. To get to the other side of the lake we took the boat trip. The water was calm and the trip scenic. Walking around the port areas would give you a snapshot of various Taiwanese treats and souvenirs. Good experience... Perhaps if can stay longer... More

Nice and relaxing place to stay. Quiet streets and cable car views were nice to the theme park. If you like greenery and water then it will be a pleasant stop for you.
