Great for a mini vacation full of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, strolling, and eating. Its about 10 degrees (farenheit) cooler than Taipei. A must-do is to see the lake from a high place like the pagoda, the gondola, or a viewpoint while hiking a tall mountain.

The lake is huge, and the waters are a clear emerald color. There are several harbors which one can get off and visit. One of them has a temple dedicated to Tang Sanzang (Journey to the West), and the famous Grandmother's Tea Eggs. The other is a small town with the usual tourist stuff. Nice place, but unfortunately, it is... More

Sun Moon Lake was created by engineers to provide hydropower, but this doesn't detract from its beauty. Undeniably scenic, the area unfortunately suffers from a glut of tourists, many from mainland China, who come en masse to snap a few pictures at famous local spots.

I was curious about this lake as it gets raving reviews of Asian people but not so much of Europeans. Indeed the lake is not special if you are used to Swiss and French mountain lakes. But still, Sun Moon Lake is a nice tranquil spot in the mountains if you get away from the crowds. In the villages are... More

Must take the ferry to view the lake and visit the island. But have to take note of the ferry time schedule and apply the same to bus go back to Nantou as there won't have bus in the evening.

I like this place. Good scenarires with mountains and lake ..so beautiful , good for sightseeing + relaxation. Besides , there are many tourist spots to visit like the temple , etc,etc driving round the lake or taking the boat. Must try to eat the 'Ah Por' herbal eggs though..that's good.

We wanted to do something special on our holiday to Taiwan so this time we opted for Sun Moon Lake. yes its a tourist destination , but yes we are tourists. We found a beautiful cabin up the hill just behind Ita Shao, easy to walk back and to and the hill helped us wear off all the great food... More

The whole place was spoilt rotten by droves of flocks by Tourists from China. They were loud (very loud) as the way they talked to each other was like shouting to a person 15m away despite in actual fact the person was only 1m away. They smoked heavily & disregard whether it agitates you or not as a non-smoker. They... More

We used the Sun Moon Lake pass from NanTou bus company to get from Taichung to the lake. It gives you a return ticket to Taichung, an unlimited boat ride, a ropeway ticket, a day ticket for the around-the-lake bus and discount on the bike rental. We went on the bus and boat rides to reach the temples surrounding the... More
