Some locals told me that the place is too crowded with tourist from mainland China. I went on the Chinese New Year eve that it was not that bad. The weather was nice! The lake was nice, the boat ride and the cable car ride was great! There are a few temples located at the sides of the lake. The... More

We went for Chinese New Year so it was very busy, but the lake still looked extremely beautiful. We went to the visitors centre and had noodle soup before continuing to other sights around the lake.

Clear water, great views. Get a bike and ride for a while. Good, well marked path. Lots of people going slow. Nice way to spend an afternoon.

A very nice place to visit in Central Taiwan. I arrived in the late evening so was only able to see the lake not clearly, but in the mornign I have to admit the view was truly wonderful. The mountains surrounding the lake were all grey and the lake itself looked mysterious. Worth the visit even though it was a... More

We reached about 11am. We walk around the lake and decided not to take the boat ride as there was too many people. The shops are interesting but it's tourist targeted. We bought musical box for the kids and they love it. The tea eggs are also nice but the shop service was not good that I purchased from, as... More

Sun Moon Lake (or SML as the bloggers call it) is said to be a must-visit in Central Taiwan. I wasn't impressed. All I remember about the visit... 1. Ah Po tea eggs. Buy the original from the third island, climb to the top to make the trip worth it. And if the mainland Chinese go all the way there... More

There is a wide range of hotels, the best being The Lalu. From your hotel you can enjoy a relaxing view of the lake and still take time to enjoy nature walks. The tourist boat on the lake is a disappointment, but everything else was well worth the visit. Suggest you stay for two days so your will have time... More

It's a port nothing much to see, so many China tourist. You can rent a bicycle and motorcycle around the area if you want, but we didnt, we just drop by for photo taking and left after an hour. There are lots of food stores and commercial stores around the area.

Picturesque lake is specially attractive in the morning. Later clouds or mist cover the hills around so taking pictures is not so perfect. Try to see it from different angles . from the boat, island, bicycling trail, gondola... two day stay is a minimum.
