We thought SML would be more touristy & crowded, but were pleasantly surprised. We bought the Sun Moon Lake pass in Taichung which included return bus transport back to Taichung, day pass for the round the lake shuttle, cable car pass, one day ferry pass & a couple of other things, which was good value. There are plenty of places... More

Start off from Shueishe wharf. Bought the round trip tickets for NT300. The lake was big and scenery was nice. There is a Chinese speaking guide in the ferry to tell about the history of the lake and places. The ferry will pass by the Lalu island in the middle of the lake. Next stop will be the Xuanzhuang temple,... More

The lake is nice but not very beautiful. It's difficult to find the right ship as there is no directions.

More than a pretty lake, each piers offers its own attraction. Be sure to pick a good hotel that offers a wide scenic view of the lake!

Beautiful area. People should go if they get the chance. You can't swim in the lake, but there are plenty of activities and sites to see around the lake.

It was very cloudy and we did not get good views of the sunrise. However, we do like the place and plans to visit again.

There are 3 piers, so you must take a ferry ride. The fee is 300 NT if you are going on F&E else with tour guide or booked taxi, it will be 100 NT per pax for whole trip (provided your tour guide didn't earn it as tips). =X My 1st jetty point was the starting point where there counter... More

The boat trip original price is TWD300, however I got it from my hostel management at TWD100. Lucky us. Do check out with your hotel/hostel/homestay on this :P. In this boat trip, you will be sent to 2 locations across the lake and lastly back to your very first jetty. Do listen to your boat captain 's announcement/instruction on which... More

I can think of so many more better places to visit in Taiwan than the Sun Moon Lake, unless mass tourism is your kind of thing. Luckily, it was only a quick stopover here and we didn't stay overnight.

I'd first visited this place ages ago in 2008, a couple of years after the Earthquake which sunk the island in the middle of the lake. It's indeed a very beautiful & peaceful lake - reminds me of Lake Toba in Indonesia. A ferry ride round the island is a must to take in the views. It's good for lovers... More
