I rented a bicycle and rode around the lake. There are some uphill but manageable if you ride bike often. You should start out early if you want to have time to stop at different places like Formosan Aboriginal Village. This area is very crowded with mainland China and I did not see any tour group that speak English.

A small charming lake that offers beautiful and relaxing views. You can rent a bike to ride along the shore and also take boat rides to the three piers that dot the lake. While not the most beautiful lake inn the world, it is a great place to visit if you are in the area.

Quiet, slow, water and nature everywhere, great little restaurants and shopping. From Taipei worth doing for a couple day break for sure.

Best if you could spend a night or two, and take some time to leisurely explore and / or relax at the various sites. There are several temples, pagodas, tribes villages, and even the town where sampling of the different local foods can be experienced.

The lake offers many different attractions at all its surrounding. It is possible to buy a free pass for a shuttle bout for around 10$ for person and move around that way, another option is just to drive around, though the traffic is heavy during the activity hours. The view around the lake is great. The popular spots are a... More

All commercialised but still lovely esp the aerial view! The dawn and dusk times are best when the tourists boats stop operating and the calm is restored!

Generally a good place to visit, but it can be packed with tourists. Do cherish the early morning time around the area, that is when you get the quiet jetty, nice photographs and sunrise!!!!

Bad weather, suggest to go there in summer. Tour guides on each boat were very funny and friendly. Lake was small, the tour only took us 40 minutes.

We took bus 35 from beacon hotel to Taichung bus station. From there, have to walk quite a distance to take this Nantou bus that will bring you directly to Sun Moon Lake. Please be mindful that there is only one bus that will bring you to Sun Moon Lake. There are other buses like Quan Cheng private bus that... More
