We stayed in Taipei and took a day trip to Sun Moon Lake and Formosan Cultural Village. We really want to thank the taxi driver that given us many good advice. We arrived Taipei late night and traveled to Tai Chung the next morning which wasted some time for traveling. If we have contacted the taxi driver earlier, he will... More

The trail does not, as the name implies, go all the way around the lake. If you come to a road, you can either continue on the road, or turn around and go back. Do not go on the road thinking that you will pick up a trail again, because you will not. If you come to the section with... More

There are 3 wharf where the boat will stop, Shueishe jetty, Ita Thao jetty and Xuanzang Temple jetty. May take a daily boat ride to explore. Good for a night stay to relax and enjoy a quiet surrounding and lake view. A lot of souvenir shops to buy food and stuff.

A beautiful lake to explore. If you haven't been here, it still worth a visit.. :) It would be better if you visit SunMoon Lake during cooling season..

For the whole Taiwan trip. What I found was Taiwan tourism really done a very good job promote their country. Almost all the attractions places we visit felt a bit disappointed. The lake some time view not attractive as well. But if u could spend a little time at evening and early morning around 4.30am. Trust me u can see... More

We visited this place in Nov and the weather was marvellously cooling and soothing. We stayed at Love Hotel, a clean and reasonably cheap minsu. The night scene at the harbor front was vibrant with performances and songs. We wandered around looking at the performance artists, listening to their lovely songs, appreciating the old tree decoration and enjoying the night... More

Sun Moon Lake may have historical importance, but it's just a lake. As a tourist there's nothing special about it. You can pay some money and go on a boat ride on/across it, but it's all quite forgetful. My advice would be to rather spend a couple of days longer in Taipei on your visit to Taiwan.

We hired cars for our trip so we have no problem getting to the places of interests in Sun Moon Lake. Our accommodation was in Ita Thao and we were going Sun Moon Lake from Alishan. Hence, I had thought that our drivers would have drove to Ita Thao first then show us around Sun Moon Lake. However, the driver... More

Was actually there twice and stayed at different category of hotels. First time is the 5-star Fleur De Chine 雲品溫泉酒店 on a business trip 2 years back and I was mesmerized by the scenic view of the lake from the hotel's balcony. Mist were forming over the water and the view changed every minute you looked, so it left a... More

Nice place to watch the sunrise. Too many tourists during the day now. Plenty to see and do. Hotels in this area are a little pricey by Taiwan standards.
