There were only 4 or so other people here when we visited last week. Our driver parked half way up along a back road to save time. Passing a few monkeys, hawkers & a pityful beggar, we climbed the last couple of hundred yards to the caves. Facinating reading about the meaning & history as you visit each cave in... more
Amazing sceneary, and views from the top guides don't really speak good english but still expect a 200+ ruppee tip beware...fascinating caves and incredibly hot. more
Visited Dambulla Caves enroute to Amaya Lake Hotel to see the 'Cultural Triangle'. Not busy when we arrived, toilets (if needed to the right (toilet roll handed to you before entering). Quite a puff up lots of steps through hawkers each side, spectacular view from top. Several caves with amazing variety of buddahs, standing, lying, painted - very humid inside.... more
