It was great to see how Sri Lanka is looking after it's minimal elephant population and trying to increase the population. But to do anything interactive with the elephants such as bathe, feed calves or ride (which I find cruel might I say) you have to pay more. I know they need money to continue the good work but it... I wasnt visited real Elephant orphange, but be carefull abou fake one, so this is only warning. We did managed to get to Pinanawala crossroad by bus. There we took tuk tuk to orphange. He took us to some place, where it was incedibly overpriced entrance fee and where we were unable to look into place before we buy tickets.... More

Great experience to be able to get up close to these amazing animals. The best place to see them is down at the river

We were at the orphanage april 11th. Seeing the elephants is a very nice experience, but be prepared for the rangers who will try to make you tip them for the slightest of services such as taking a photo of you. After paying 2500LKR per person this is most embarrassing. Their attitude is a shame to the park. We witnessed... More

We took our 2 girls 11 and 7yrs, both of whom are animal lovers. We were a bit wary as a few reviews on trip advisor made us think twice about going. In hindsight we had nothing to worry about. Yes the workers occasionaly have to use pointy sticks to control the animals but they have 2 inch skin and... More

It was not what I expected. The elephants are great but there were still quite a few elephants tied up. We opted to pay extra to feed baby elephants but it was so busy and not well organised so I wouldn't recommend. Take local currency they do not accept dollars.

It's a good place to visit - the worlds largest elephant herd resides there. I traveled there with my wife and friends. The train ride from Colombo is good and the orphanage is half way to Kandy. We arrived early and went for a cuppa and breakfast at the Elephant hotel waiting for the attraction to open. We were over... More

its a wonderful place to see elephants. you are bombarded for tips. .....but I find that describes asia in general. ......I was happy to pay extra to touch and feed the elephant. I don't think any zoo looks after animals any better. ....and it was very special to be able to get so close to them.

We were attracted by the fact that it is supposed to be an orphanage for mistreated elephants, but once there we were very disappointed. Now it seems like a circus business where the caretakers are dragging you the elephants to take a picture with them, 'bathing' an elephant countless times, and almost forcefeeding milk to elephants, only to win some...
