I have just got back from 2 weeks in Sri Lanka, working at the Millenium Elephant Foundation. I would advise people to ask their guides or drivers to take them to the 'elephant bath' as this is a much smaller but much more hands on place to visit. Wasn't sure what to make of the place when we first went in - as first thing we saw were 5 elephants chained up, but soon came to realise that another 79 were roaming free around the park. The entry fee was LKR 250 per person since we were from SAARC country. When we reached there the elephants were bathing in the river. The handlers were rude and were not allowing tourists to get photos with elephants.
