Owner description: My shop is located at the Kandy Central Market which is opposite the Clock Tower and it is not difficult to find as it is a well known local market in Kandy. The shop is open from 9.00am to 6.00pm every day. In case if the shop is closed, please do not hesitate to call me as it is a pleasure to open my store for you within 20 minutes............... Jayamali Batiks Studio, one of the most famous batik studios in Kandy, was founded in 1979 by Jayakody. He discovered his talent to create unique batik wall hangings and started the business with very few means at his home as a family business. His unique style of designing modern, artistic and unusual designs to a very high quality fascinated the foreign guests who visited his studio.

First I will like to say that we had a great time talking with CJ (the shop  owner) who explained us the way batik is made, you must hear this explanation to understand how difficult is to make a batik. His work is beatiful and very precise, and he explains very well with a lot of patience. If you want... More

Sri Lanka, like anywhere, can have people who are looking to take advantage of the unique situation where a lack of information, pressured buying and perhaps some dodgy advice (eg. 'This art takes 6 months to make') leads to grossly overpaying for handmade artwork. Jayamali's was a different experience. We enjoyed the frank and honest discussion with the owner, learning... Stunning batiks here, the best we have seen in Sri Lanka. These are some beautiful designs. Very mellow chap owns the place seems happy to chat about life the universe etc. and explain the whole process of batik. Recommended.

Nice man and lovely artwork. Not pushy and very proud of his work. The batiks are of very fine quality. Like others have said, ore expensive, but the quality is worth it. Would recommend.

Went to this Batik studio purely because of the ratings on Tripadvisor.com. Chaminda is a really talented man with true passion for the art. He spoke to us really well and gave us two of his products at a "special rate" because he said that "Indians are the toughest customers to deal with" (I'm Indian btw). I found that quite... More

If you are looking for batiks and willing to splash some cash then this is the place to go. As others have said the quality of the work is probably better than anything else you're going to find in kandy. We were looking for a batik but for the size we wanted these were just a bit too expensive. The... More

This shop has original and beautiful batik. Very nice, not pushy young man, who is happy to show you the huge variety in his store. Very proud of his Trip Advisor status.

Best shop in all of Kandy. Unlike the cheap stores, whos retailer's try to double the price, Jayamali studio, has a fixed price which is very reasonable for the work. If you want to buy something to cherish for a long time, go to this studio.

Very interesting and friendly. I would highly recommend a visit to his store. It is not the cheapest but his quality and work is the best. So you pay for what you get. Very happy with my purchase.
