Some Guides and Drivers could try to recommend you another batik shop by saying that my shop is closed today or difficult to find, etc;. Please do not believe such people. Please call me or use Google map to find my store easily. My shop is situated inside the Kandy Central Market which is opposite the Kandy Clock Tower and it is not difficult to find as it is a well known local market in Kandy. The shop is open from 9.00am to 6.00pm every day. In case if the shop is closed, please call me or get a free call from the shop which is next to mine as it is a pleasure to open my store for you within next 20 minutes. Jayamali Batiks Studio, one of the most famous batik studios in Kandy, was founded in 1979 by Jayakody. He discovered his talent to create unique batik wall hangings and started the business with very few means at his home as a family business. His unique style of designing modern, artistic and unusual designs to a very high quality fascinated the foreign guests who visited his studio.

We loved this small shop.We could only buy one but would like to have bought many more. Lovely vendor who told us the designs are by his father. Not the cheapest but the best. On the first floor of the market .

We spent a great deal of time shopping around Sri Lanka and we have no doubt that this is the best shop we purchased anything during our trip. The quality is better than any of the mass-produced tourist shops. Everything is hand made and the owner has a mix of modern patterns (designed of his father) and traditional patterns. Items... This little shop in the heart of Kandy's Central Market is an absolute gem. The batik designs are all fresh and original, and the works each handmade and one of a kind. Colors used are brilliant -- think bright blues and turquoise with oranges and corals and reds -- and in combinations never seen among batik in any other shops.... More

Easily the best store I went to in Kandy. And it was open on Sunday, so we could shop without fighting crowds. My wife has been collecting batik for a long time and it's rare to see such quality anymore.

After a long morning of looking at Batiks, I finally got to Jayamali studio and found just what I had been looking for. Chaminda has a good (but not overwhelming) range of batiks, and it is wonderful to see some of the contemporary designs now available. The traditional pieces were of excellent quality too. Sure batiks are not cheap -... More

Batiks here are beautiful and the real deal. Not inexpensive, but worth it for the quality. Owner was super helpful and friendly, finishing the hem on a particular pattern my friend wanted in half an hour. Well located in the main market too.

Upon entering the shop we were greeted by the incredibly warm and friendly artist, Chaminda. He took the time to educate us on the intricacies of batik making followed by displaying for us many of his gorgeous pieces of both traditional and modern designs. This experience alone would have satisfied as it never felt as though he was pushing us... More

These batiks are works of art and priced as such - there are modern and traditional designs. A lovely (easily packed) souvenir.

We visited the shop of Chaminda after reading about it in our guidebook and had a very pleasent experience. He patiently explained the process and art of Batik to us and showed us many of his beautiful traditional and original designs. The prices seem high but are indeed reasonable, considering the amount of work, creativity and craftsmanship that goes into... More
