My shop is located at the Kandy Central Market which is opposite the Clock Tower and it is not difficult to find as it is a well known local market in Kandy. The shop is open from 9.00am to 6.00pm every day. In case if the shop is closed, please do not hesitate to call me as it is a pleasure to open my store for you within 20 minutes............... Jayamali Batiks Studio, one of the most famous batik studios in Kandy, was founded in 1979 by Jayakody. He discovered his talent to create unique batik wall hangings and started the business with very few means at his home as a family business. His unique style of designing modern, artistic and unusual designs to a very high quality fascinated the foreign guests who visited his studio.

The explanation of the process of crafting one of a kind batiks by hand was really great and helped us to better understand the batiks, which are truly amazing to look at. The details and the colors are amazing and we cannot wait to hang them up in our living room!

This shop in Kandy Market offers beautiful batiks -- it is doubtful that you will find better quality or craftsmanship in Kandy or perhaps in all of Sri Lanka. My wife and I bought a beautiful batik on our recent trip that we look forward to having framed. The service, however, can stand to improve a bit. The owner ignored... More

CJ the owner of this small business provided a very good service and prevented us from purchasing inferior batik products from other retailers. His Products are very high quality and beautifully designed. The prices are fair for the quality offered. We recommend him highly

We were in Kandy when we decided to buy some batik to take home as the ones we bought on our previous visit 35 years ago have been much loved but now faded. We googled the best place to go and came up with this shop. What a joy! We had a lovely time looking at all the art work... More

The owner of this small shop in the market is very friendly and talkative and will happily explain the processes behind making his Batiks. The batiks are really nice and I'm glad to have a nice souvenir that will fit in my backpack!

Before travelling to Sri Lanka, I had not heard of Batiks. Once there, I heard of it but was still not sure what it was. So, when I was in Kandy, I went to the Central Market to find some as I was advised by some locals. When I walked in the main entrance, I could see right away, straight... More

First I will like to say that we had a great time talking with CJ (the shop  owner) who explained us the way batik is made, you must hear this explanation to understand how difficult is to make a batik. His work is beatiful and very precise, and he explains very well with a lot of patience. If you want... More

Sri Lanka, like anywhere, can have people who are looking to take advantage of the unique situation where a lack of information, pressured buying and perhaps some dodgy advice (eg. 'This art takes 6 months to make') leads to grossly overpaying for handmade artwork. Jayamali's was a different experience. We enjoyed the frank and honest discussion with the owner, learning... Stunning batiks here, the best we have seen in Sri Lanka. These are some beautiful designs. Very mellow chap owns the place seems happy to chat about life the universe etc. and explain the whole process of batik. Recommended.
