Description: My shop is located at the Kandy Central Market which is opposite the Clock...
My shop is located at the Kandy Central Market which is opposite the Clock Tower and it is not difficult to find as it is a well known local market in Kandy. The shop is open from 9.00am to 6.00pm every day. In case if the shop is closed, please do not hesitate to call me as it is a pleasure to open my store for you within 20 minutes............... Jayamali Batiks Studio, one of the most famous batik studios in Kandy, was founded in 1979 by Jayakody. He discovered his talent to create unique batik wall hangings and started the business with very few means at his home as a family business. His unique style of designing modern, artistic and unusual designs to a very high quality fascinated the foreign guests who visited his studio.

We entered this shop to see the beautiful batiks art that it's shows. We met an interesting guy that works there- he is the son of the baktis art workshop owner. he explained us paciantly about the batiks making process and about the moon stone- the life circle in the Buddhism. Was very interesting conversation! I bought one of the... More

The owner enthusiastically explained his background in Batik work from how it started with his father and was also kind enough to take the time to explain the process due to my interest. He then went on to create an original design to my request as I wanted Arabic calligraphy. He was very thorough in the design process to ensure... More

The experience was such a delight! CJ explained how he creates his batik with you and you could clearly see how valuable each batik truly is with all the procedures involved. It was fascinating to hear how his father created the business and the interesting stories in it. I especially adore the modern art batik design which is so unique... More

CJ is not only a great guy, but a brilliant artist! His passion for the art of Batiks oozes out of every pore as he takes the time to explain the intricacies of making his pieces of art. Everyone who visits CJ - tucked away incognito in Kandy's Central Market - should first go through all the markets to see... More

We're very hard to please when it come to art. We'd just about given up on finding a batik that was different yet traditional, traditional but daring, daring yet engaging. We'd been to almost every major batik retailer on our journey and found what we were looking for. It was then we stumbled on to Cj at Jayamali Batiks Studio.... More

Had a lovely time here. CJ and his family own the the shop/gallery and make all the Batiks themselves, they have pictures in the shop to show you. They take the time to show you exactly how everything is made, which is very impressive, as well as being friendly and polite, not hassling or pushing for sales. CJ was lovely,... More

I passed by this store. The owner completely ignored us as he was having a chat with another western couple. When i finally got his attention to ask the price of a few pieces, the price quoted were ludicrously high, especially taking into account he is surrounded by stores selling much cheaper batik.

Dear Madam/Sir, I am so sorry to inform you that I do not offer my service for anybody who just pass by my shop because as a policy I never hassle anyone who just pass by my shop plus it is not possible for me to explain the process of making my batiks and the quality and the uniqueness of... It's hard to add anything that hasn't already been written about Jayamali Batiks Studio. I completely agree with everyone's sterling reviews. I don't think a trip to Kandy would be complete without a stop here. The gallery itself seems a little out of place in the public market, amongst the trinket stores aggressively vying for the attention of tourists. With... More
