We sought out this store after reading reviews on Tripadvisor and we were so pleased with the experience. We spent almost two hours with CJ, learning about the hand-manufacturing process, and then choosing our Batiks. CJ showed immense patience, particularly as we had an impatient toddler and a tired infant with us. We eventually chose 3 batiks (3 elephants, matching... More

I found Jamal boutique just walking by the central market. He explained really well how Batik are made and the signification of symbols on some of them. It was really interesting and Jamal took time to answer every questions. Do not hesitate and just go there to have a look if you are in Kandy.

We happened unto this store by accident and when we met CJ, the owner, he went out of his way to explain the batik process as well as explaining nuances of different designs. A must go for those who want to learn more about the Sri Lankan batik production. CJ the owner is especially informative and knowledgeable and he does... More

I stumbled across this store and was in complete awe with the beauty and the designs. The owner is very accommodating and will show you dozens of designs. He also taught us the meaning of each batik, and demonstrated how they were made. The batiks are high quality with one of a kind designs. He won't try to overprice them.... More

The shop owner speaks perfect English and gave us a lesson on how the batik is made and talked with us for an hour about Buddhism and the meanings behind... More

If you are interested in buying a batik, or even just looking and hearing about how they are made, ignore every other shop and go straight to Jayamali.

Wow! I read about this place on TripAdvisor and thought "why not give it a try?" So I went there, but the shop was closed. A bit disappointed I went to some other shops around Kandy to by some gifts. I then returned to the central market, and was happy to find the shop open. The owner, who produces these... More

Jayamali Batiks is one of the finest batik shops I've visited in Asia. CJ is a good salesman as he took the time to explain the batik process and didn't try to rip us off. The batik paintings were far superior than anything you'll at any market, so don't expect to bargain at the same rate. My parents and I... More
