We walked around the whole lake stopping when needeed to watch different species of birds, monitor lizards, fish, fruit bats on tree tops and even spoisonous water snakes. Sri Lankan had lunch pause and they were eating by this holy lake. That is the reason, why no one is not swimming, fishing or trashing this lake (a monk from nearby... More

Great boat ride particular after 5 evening. Well clean and kept lake. I felt great about Srilankans on keeping their places clean.

Get an accommodation on the hill behind the lake - it's worth the view. Otherwise, feed the fish and watch out not to step on a baby water monitor lizard, sunbathing on the banks.

We loved the walk on the lake and the view is so nice and saw nice birds. You shouldn't miss the view from the hill side.

We took a walk around the lake. Saw lots of animals and fish. It has a very exotic feel about it. You can see terrapins, huge lizards basking in the sun, pelicans and very large fruit bats. The Royal bathing house is currently under restoration and will be wonderful when completed.

Reminiscent of European lakeside towns (Annecy,) with villa cladded hills rising on both sides.. A stroll around its shore especially at weekends when Kandyans are at play is a lovely experience. Cool in a hot country!

It´s a lake in the center of Kandy. From one side is highway, from second you can walk, but not sit for seeing. Every places for sitting was terribly dirty from birds :) One part is more quiet from city noise, you can see here some ducks.
