This is a stunning piece of architecture. You just tend to wonder how this was built ,so long ago. It is really worth a look at.The history surrounding this temple also is very interesting.

This was the first site that I visited during my trip to Sri Lanka and it sort of stuck with me as it is the largest Stupa in the country (contrary to the description). The best thing to do is the take a walk around the stupa itself so you get an idea of just how large it is. You... More

This is one of the great attractions of the ancient sacred city of Anuradhapura and an important landmark in the history of Buddhism. It is one of the tallest religious monuments in the world. One can stand and imagine the incredible task of constructing this amazing feature. Advice is to arrive as early as possible in the morning to enjoy... More

One of the very important monument of the Sri Lankan early kingdoms and buddhism history! Don't miss it! Don't forget, hat and shoes forbidden inside the sacred area. You will need sun protection cream, and exchange socks is very practical. The reason not just the dirty floor (these places wasn't really dirty), very often the stone very hot without shoes.... This was one of the best Dogoba's we went to in Sri Lanka. The elephants surrounding it makes it look even more beautiful. A very peaceful place if you go there early.

It's a must visit for anyone who visits Anuradhapura. It's hard to believe how the ancient people built this tremendous structure thousands of years ago. The attention to details is exquisite. However recommend to use socks for whom not used to walk on bare foot on a hot day.

Anuradhapura is a must see on the Sri Lankan tourist trail and this site is one of the ancient city's highlights. The entrance fee (which includes this and many other of Anuradhapura's sites) is excessive though we managed to push aside the thought of being ripped off and enjoyed our day in this marvelous ancient city. A perfect occasion to... More

This is the first place/attraction that we visited in Anuradhapura. We saw a lot of people mostly local Buddhist wearing in white hanging around in the park, some family relaxing under the tree, kids playing around and Buddhist flags hanging on the tress too. The whole atmospheres here just look bless and peaceful, and people enjoying their time here. Besides... More

There is so much to see around anuradhapura. We only stayed one night, but two would be better so you don't become worn out by the heat and stupa-faction. You really do need a guide to get it all in perspective - and why not put money into local pockets when the greedy government creams so much off tourists and... More
