This ensemble of buildings is one of the monumental architectural works in Oradea and Transylvania, typical for the secession style. The architects Komor Marcell and Jakab Dezső won the contest for the construction of this complex. Two Jewish lawyers, Dr. Kurlander Ede and Dr. Emil Adorjan, decided to finance, using their own resources, the construction of a noteworthy building in Oradea. The work started in 1907, under the supervision of the civil engineer Sztarill Ferenc, and in December 1908 the building was completed. Consisting of two unequal and asymmetrical buildings, connected to a third one, placed in the middle and more isolated, the complex housed a theatre, ballrooms, a casino and offices. The Y-shaped gallery (passage) has three entrances. The Vittorio Emanuele Gallery in Milan inspired the glass-covered interior. The gallery or the Passage, as the local people know it, concentrates the most popular bars, coffee houses and pubs in the city, being the entertainment high spot of the city.

This is the place I like mostly in Oradea. Right now the square in front of this building is under refurbishment but hopefully in spring everything will be done. This palace were built at begin of 20 century. and it were built for multiple purpose. Mostly to become a hotel and the first cinema in the city, and lot of... More

Now everything is under renovation and will be ready when deserved stay for one day there. Location cocktail bar and a nightclub is great, because the passage is surrounded by historic buildings, architectural styles that reflect more European, and that, at a place in Europe can not be met.

It was built in 1907-9. It is one of the best example of the Hungarian Art Nouveaux. Originally it was a hotel, as one part of it is today. The passage inside has got restaurants, café, shops, cinema. The innder decoration is breathtaking. It is a must in Oradea.

This is probably the most representative building and example of Art Nouveau in Oradea. Located right across the City Hall by the Crisul Repede river it is now the headquarter of Romania Data System company. It has been recently partly renovated and it's due to be fully restored by the beginning of next year. During weekends Black Hawk is the... More

Built some one hundred years a go this is a beautiful Art Nouveau covered shopping street ( a grandpa of today's shopping malls). Impersonate building and interesting concept rare in this part of the world. The place is undergoing massive restoration work like the entire city center expected to be completed by Christmas 2015. The place hosts some coffee shops... More

This building is part of a large area of art nouveau buildings in the center of town. They need renovations and happily they are working now on renovations. There are some pubs in this Black Eagle but not much more. It's lots of desertes old shops, so it has a unique feel of ancient times. Hopefully the area will restore... More

This arcade is situated in a larger beautiful building in Secession style (Art Nouveau). Inside there are several details that capture the eye; such as the floral motives on the floor, the lampfixtures, the glass roof, and of course the stained glass window with the black hawk after which the arcade was named. There are several cafés restaurants and small... More
