We took a bus down there from Lima. Once we got there one of our group signed into a hostal and we began to walk around. The prices weren't terrible and just about everyone there was a tourist. We signed up for the sunset dune buggy excursion and left for the coast. When we got back our tour guide found... More

The Oasis itself was very beautiful! I also did the sand duning and the sand boarding which was extremely fun!! Hint: the sand is VERY hot, I made the mistake of wearing sandals-I suggest to wear closed toe shoes. On the down side, my experience of the local services (bar/restaurants) were not so hot. We were 2- 1boy and 1... More

They advertise it as an oasis in the middle of the desert, but we were told that is no longer natural but man made. The view is great nonetheless, the dunes are majestic, but we actually expected smaller ones. We didn't do the dunes trailing cause we couldn't actually drive the biggies, but if you are an adrenaline junkie, you'll... More

We stayed in Huacachina for two nights, and used it as our base to explote the area (mainly Paracas and Islas Ballestas). Though it could be a nice place, we noticed that 1) the place is very small, 2) the place is polluted with trash, 3) it is impossible to find a good hotel. I would say that the place... More

Rode the sand dunes with a group in Huacachina - we were a family of four with two teenagers and everyone had a blast. It was much more exciting than we expected and they allowed us to mount our go pro on the front of the sand buggy, which gave us some incredible footage. This is probably the one "must... More

I stayed in Ica and took a tour to Huacachina for sand boarding and dune bugging. The town is very cool and in the middle of it is a small lake. The whole town is surrounded by sand dunes as high in the Middle East I imagine. It is a tourist trap but worth every penny....15-20 usd buys you about 2... More

Huacachina was one of my favorite places in Peru, we had a great time on the Dune Buggies and the Sand boarding was a blast. We went with a tour company called Huacachina Tours and they arranged both the Dunes and a Wine tour, while the dunes were excellent the wine tour was not. Our English speaking guide was very... Huacachina, a genuine oasis, is truly the gem of Ica. While the place itself is interesting and nice to walk around, it is also a launching point for many other cool experiences. From here, you can take a thrilling ride around the sand dunes, go sandboarding, go to Paracas, or the Nazca lines. I went to Paracas and did the... More
