Huaraz is the destination to start hiking, trekking, and climbing in Peru. Equipment rentals and guides are available in many places. There are many good restaurants, hostels, and guesthouses. When going to Huaraz beware of the Cruz del Sur Night(mare) bus, their website doesn't reflect their service.

It is the perfect destination for nature lovers and trekkers. It also offers a great variety of adventure sports such as biking, climbing and cross country ski. Its people are very friendly and will appreciate your visit. I visited the area for 5 days and it was not enough. I will, for sure, come back!

My family hiked the Cordillera Blanca mountain range in the Peruvian Andes supported by Quechuandes DayTours out of Huaraz, Peru. This was an inspiring event and was a cultural learning along with a great hike with flora/fauna beauty like we had never seen before. Quechandes was great and gave us 100% support addressing all of our wishes and desires. We... More

I spent 10 months in Huaraz - and other parts of Peru - in 1979, 1980 and 1981. Huaraz was such a small town then. Lots of dirt streets. Almost no buildings were more than a single story. It seemed like everyone in the town knew me as "Carlos," the gringo who had become an almost permanent fixture. After 35... More

Its all magical, did not dislike anything. The roads are not all paved, but the thrill of the nature and history behind it makes it unforgettable, be ready for a bumpy ride

Very nice town, bustling with locals in the evening and good food. Great places to visit, like national parks, and off the beaten path places.

Beautiful and Amazing trek, no doubt about that. But you're safe and sound with this company. From setting up camp to cooking to personal sightseeing tips, it was a great experience. I'd recommend this company to novice and advanced hikers alike!

I live about an hour up the road, in Carhuaz. Huaraz doesn't have everything, but certainly offers more than Carhuaz, particularly in the way of tourist attractions, tours, and shopping. There are still things that are best found in Lima or Chimbote, but HUaraz is a central fixture in the Cordillera Blanca.

I've been traveling to Huaraz since 2005 and recently moved here. I truly love walking around the city. The mountains surrounding the city are breathtaking. The restaurant options are numerous and the people are friendly. If you are traveling to Peru and want a good place to start your hikes or mountain climbing... or just a city that is nice... More
