This memorial park is tucked away in a quiet place which is appropriate to mark this site of great sorry and pain. The small museum gives an account of the camp and the terrible fate suffered by its occupants in the most inhumane conditions. It seems a fitting setting to walk in the shady grounds and reflect on its past.

Very informative, you could get a real insight into how terribly bad the p.o.w were treated & so sad to read about the treatment that they were made to endure.

Well done to all involved in restoring and maintaining this area. You can read about this in books but when you go out there you realise just how brutal this was. The gardens and walkway are immaculately maintained.i would highly recommend the visit for all.

The Memorial is set in a beautiful park like setting with ponds and well manicured gardens. The information was in both Malay and English and told the story of the prisoners ordeal very well. It was very sad to read about what happened to these people but without this memorial people would not know.

This is a must see in Sandakan. It is extremely moving, extremely sad, but at the same time it opens up your eyes to what occurred during the Death Marches. It can't be missed.

Nice gardens and lake. A very sad place. Worth a visit if only to see what some governments do. Shame the Japanese censor this place

Being European this part of the history actually was never told to me before. A new Australian friend encouraged us to visit the memorial place and it was very informative, nice surroundings to walk around and interesting to learn about this sad piece of history.

"Excellent" is probably not the best word to describe it but it was the right place to visit for someone from a military background and who served in the Far East. We went especially to lay poppiesand to learn a little more about the Sandakan-Ranau Death Marches. Thank you to the Australians for maintaining it so well. We'll never forget... More

We had some time to kill on the way to the airport so we arranged to visit this memorial. It is a sad journey but one that we should take as decedents of ANZACs. Let us hope that this chapter of history has taught us all to an alternative to war because in the end no one wins!

So emotional. Thank you Australian Government for preserving this place. It is very well done and maintained beautifully. Go, walk around and take it all in. I am still overcome just remembering
