wasn't that impressed! we loved the governments carpet factory there and we did buy a handwoven carpet from Kairouan. the rest not so interesting in the Medina

Kairouan has a striking white-washed medina with several amazing mosques, including the Great Mosque (ca 1,000 A.D.) and the Mosque of Three Doors (900 A.D.) The souks are innocuous and quite charming, with some antiques to be had. Kairouan has a super new and free museum opposite the Gt Mosque. Adequate cheap hotels and food to be had.
