At right time of year, a paradise for migratory birds

We visited in early March, almost too late for most migratory birds. Soon, it will be too hot for them and the Siberian ducks, etc., will leave. But while missing many species, we... read more

We visited in early March, almost too late for most migratory birds. Soon, it will be too hot for them and the Siberian ducks, etc., will leave. But while missing many species, we saw a good number. The wetlands are easily accessible by a path that rickshaws use. (Bikes also can be rented.) We hired a naturalist and were pleased... More

Definitely use a naturalist and if you are short on time, hire a rickshaw. The naturalists are all licensed by the park and unless you are very familiar with birds of the area and the migratory birds that arrive in the winter. A caution would be to know if there was a good monsoon season. If not the migratory birds... More

This is a 'must-visit' sanctuary whether or not you are interested in birds. Strolling along the main paths with a knowledgeable guide passionate about the place and its wildlife is as rewarding an experience as any you are likely to encounter in India. Large tracts of water attract water-birds both resident and migratory in a wonderful setting. Our guide, Vishnu,... More

Go with a naturalist, ours was very good (sorry I forgot his name), honest, well-read. He explained and showed us many birds even though we were pressed for time (came with only 4 hrs, this is a place to spend at least 6 hours or ideally a complete day). I felt that ideally the place is for discovering on foot.... More

Guides are good but you can enjoy also by yourself on a bike. Whether you are a serious twitcher or casual looker who wants a break from forts and palaces it's good fun to look for Kingfishers and the rest.

We showed up on the spur of the moment at 1pm, no binoculars and no plan. We skipped the guides and opted for a gentle soul on a rickshaw (#45). He was so knowledgeable, showed us lots of hidden nooks, and spoke excellent English, at least as far as the birds were concerned. He also had binoculars! Please seek him... More

This bird sanctuary is an amazing place. The wonderful woods, the tall grasses, the waterbodies that shimmer in the sun are all full of birds migratory or local. Going into the sanctuary on a rickshaw is another experience altogether. Walking on the trails, sitting by the water and watching the bird from close quaters is an unparalled experience.

This is a really peaceful spot and nature lovers will enjoy it just as much as bird watching buffs. There are also antelopes and other mammals.

We had a great morning at the park. We were there from 7am - 1pm and saw a lot of birds and wildlife. We hired bikes (but didn't get change so watch that) which was a very leisurely way to see the park and you could stop when you liked. We turned down a guide - too expensive. There is... More
