If you have already seen Periyar lake, it will seem just like a joke. It's a downgraded Periyar. It has boating facilities.

The dam lies in way to Top Station and is must a stopover for having some photos. The view of hills surrounding the lake is quite picturesque. Also the place has some shops for wooden and other handicraft which seemed reasonable to me (after some negotiations). There are also some water activities nearby where they take you for ride in... A boat ride on the Dam reservoir is quite soothing and perhaps the best place for elephant sighting. We were quite lucky a see a Elephant herd hardly a few meters away grazing. It's serene, beautiful, also has echo point, good parking space available. Dont waste your money on the boat house. Nothing special about this. The rest was fantastic !!!

Best part about this place is speed boat. One can have fun in group and in parallel see beauty of nature closely. It is good place for photography as well. Advise for travellers - in case you don't want to go for speed boat or find it costly or want pedal boat or canoeing boat you can go to echo... More

Finally at kerala first time seen original forest elephants. Nice place big lake. Roaming in speed boats with life jackets. Very nice boats with good drivers. Seeing elephants who come to drink water on coast. Dreams come true. Must visit place

Mattupetty dam was proved a nice family activity spot during our munnar visit.boat riding was most exciting activity....my child fully enjoyed that. Local berry fruits and fresh pineapple chats must try.overall nice spot for a Munnar visitor.

It is about 12-13 kilometers from Munnar town very nice scenic beauty on the way and at destination. Photo point is on the way and you can speed boat ride at the dam. Shopping and street food available near the dam
