2 hours from munnar, atleast may be more. Bad bad road for the last half of the journey, you can travel by jeep only, but a fun adventure nonetheless, not for the faint hearted, The tea estate, highest in the world, is a nice place for photos, tour of the factory and some fresh tea.

We were booked on the 10K trek, but really only walked about 3K. There was a Jeep on hand all the way in case we needed a rest or a lift a bit higher up the mountain. Our guide Hadley was superb and told us so much about the tea plantation, the wildlife, local area etc. and even demonstrated some... More

Being living 100kms away from Munnar means, going ~25times over there. But never to Kolukkumalai and I was missing the whole picture. Its just another world, the Tea Paradise! Uploaded a video took en-route - http://youtu.be/bZoW25HdOXM The road is treacherous, bone cracking but you will be rewarded very well with the mesmerizing views. Those jeep drivers charge around ~1200/- just... More

To visit Kolukkumalai Tea Estate and the tea processing factory one has to hire jeep. The jeep guy charges you 1500 for the ride and there is an entry fees of Rs. 100 per person as its a private tea estate. The cost might sound bit more but its worthy. The ride is very very very bumpy, with lot of... More

If I could helicopter or teleport Kolukkumalai Tea Estates would be 5 star. The tour, about 15 min, was interesting and hands-on. It's amazing that they still use the same process from 1935. The cup of tea afterwards (10 ruppees) was lovely, although standing in the parking lot sipping from a papercup wasn't exactly what I had envisioned. The biggest... More
