Zoo is nicely maintained with direction to move on every corner. It has very good collection of carnivorous animals and variety of birds,. Timings of visit are 9 am to 6 pm. Zoo is closed on wednesday. Entry fee is very nominal. I have seen tigers in many zoos but the built of tigers in sakkarbaug zoo is the best.... More

The first impression I got was that this place lacks funding! Enclosures are not very well kept. The range of animals/birds is limited and several of the snake-pits were empty! the aquarium is not well stocked either. Got to saw a few interesting animals at the remote end of the zoo though - hippo, bison, etc. If you are in... More

The zoo is a short ride from the town centre, 30/40 rupees in a shared rickshaw, and really not bad compared to other zoos I've visited. There is a good educational display in the Orientation Centre and, although some of the enclosures seemed a bit small, none of the animals seemed 'stir crazy'. The zoo staff appear to be making... All the Cats at one place, decent collection of birds. Crocodiles, gharyials, Hippo if its not submerged. Also offers a 30 min trip in a semi forest kind of setup. Children should have a great time.

most zoos in india are badly maintained sadly and sakkarbaug which is one of the few zoo's to be managed and owned by the forest dept is nothing exceptional. just another government unit with its ills !! i hear its got the largest inventory of zoo bred lions which no other zoo wants!!

Ideal day getaway to enjoy nature. Situated in the foothills of Mount Girnar, Sakkarbaug provides a glimpse of dry desiduous forest similar to Gir Forest. Sakkarbaug is best known for its successful breeding of lions in captivity. Besides lion, it houses other wild cats like tiger, leopards and cheetahs. The cages at Sakkarbaug are much larger and there is a... More
