A place that everyone must see in Ohrid. The fortress seems like is waving and inviting every time when you are watching it.

The views from the fortress to the lake are good. Overall it is a nice site to visit. There is a small entrance fee 30 denars.

the fortress looks more impressive from war. Once you get inside the walls, there is very little there and I would be surprised if you spent too much time inside. However, it is something that you must do when in Ohrid, just don't expect any more than what you see from afar.

As previous reviewers have commented, this fortress does not offer placards with information nor guide books which is really unfortunate because it does have an interesting and important history. Www.macedinia-timeless.com offers some information on the Fort's origins and role in Macedonian history as do a few other websites, but you'll have to investigate a few to get more information. We... I was a bit disappointed by this one. There are only the ramparts and that's all, no museum inside, no displays, no texts, nothing. The view is good though and the entrance fee is cheap, so why not go? Steep and narrow stairs on the way up and down, so think about the shoes you wear, but that goes for... More

It simply does not make sense to stay in Ohrid and seeing the fortress without going...so we did. And yes it is a hot walk to get up there but the view is magnificent. The fortress walls are to some degree restored and you can walk along the edge of the fortress from one corner to the other and enjoy... More

This isn't a world-class castle--I've been to plenty of those. The lack of interpretive guidance and the relatively unimpressive internal structures (traces of foundations, mostly) account for that. But my family ended up spending over an hour here. The walls can be climbed for over half of the circuit of the fortress, and within that there are places to explore... More

This place is great for the view of Ohrid both sides. There is really not much there except a few empty dark rooms and lots of steps along the wall but, the view on the top is exceptional.

The Fortress gives excellent overviews of the Ohrid in 360 degrees. You can take good photographs and enjoy the walk on the fortress walls. The only thing that is really missing is guide or marking of the buildings that will tell the story about the life behind the doors of the fortress and the power of Tzar Samuil. Well worth... More

If nothing else you'll be rewarded with the most fantastic view of Lake Ohrid and the surrounding community. If you're in to walking (climbing) then go visit the Church of St. John, then walk up to the Fortress and then back down through the winding streets to the center of Ohrid. Absolutely gorgeous!!
