Quite a climb to get there, but the view is worth it

On the fortress itself there are two points where you can look through a telescope-thingy. Doesn't cost much, and you can see across the lake. It's a shame there isn't much of... read more

The history is very nice but also the view. The fortres is rebuilt and you have two high pints where you can see Ohrid in all it's splendor.

There is little left of the fortress itself, but the views are great, and the the woods on the north side have paths down to the cliff edge, and from there down to a secluded beach set with willow trees - a lovely area.

On the fortress itself there are two points where you can look through a telescope-thingy. Doesn't cost much, and you can see across the lake. It's a shame there isn't much of history of the fortress explained there, so the only thing you can do up there is climb to the top, take a picture and then you're done.

The very fortress is not too interesting as there are generally just the walls. But definitely you can enjoy there the best view on the Ohrid lake.

Area of Samuel's Fortress ("Samoilova tvrdina") is very complex by archeological aspect. Much older castle existed there before Samuel arrived in Ohrid. Tsar has reconstructed and modified it. Fortress includes two parts - Downtown and King's castle. It is possible to come by car in front main gate of Downtown. Parking and entrance to Downtown are free. If you want... More

Located on the highest point of the city its a must see place in Ohrid. While going up hill you must go through the old town which is amazing. you get the best view of the whole area from there

Located in the old and interesting part of Ohrid. The fortress has good views of the surrounding city. From the outside it appears well maintained. There is little to see from the inside other than to walk around the top of the high walls. A small fee is charged for entry to this attraction.

Impressive fortress on the top of the city hill. It is better to visit first the church of kaneo because then the walk up the hill is under trees and not in the bare sun. Entrance is 30 Denar. Great view over Ohrid and the lake. Some archeological sites. Impressive walls

Being from a Bulgarian heritage I can only admire what one of our ancestors had built a long time ago. The fortress is definitely worth a visit while in this area

The fortress looks impressive when you look at it from any place in the town. If you decide to visit it, you have to climb quite a high and steep hill, pay admission of 30 denars and then you can only climb the fortification, as there is nothing left inside the fortress, moreover you find no information about it not...
