We think that this location is a wonderful secret. We almost want to put people off, to keep it for ourselves.

Lake Ohrid has always attracted me for some reason, I guess being born in a coastal city I have an affinity for water. Yet, Lake Ohrid is special. The climate, the pure waters, entertainment around it, the history of the city of Ohrid with centuries of art and architecture. Ohrid offers them all. It was for this reason I took... More

Lake Ohrid, straddles the mountainous border between southwestern Macedonia and eastern Albania. It is one of Europe's deepest and oldest lakes, preserving a unique aquatic ecosystem that is of worldwide importance, with more than 200 endemic species. The importance of the lake was further emphasized when it was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1979.

Lake Ohrid gets busy in the summer and I mean BUSY. The center is packed, many cafes are packed full. The sites are worth seeing if you do it right. Places to swim on the lake near the center of Ohrid aren't worth it, you must pay to use beach chairs at Kaneo and many places fill up quick. The... More

We had a wonderful two days on and around Lake Ohrid. The lake itself is stunning and has a number of secluded beaches and coves to go swimming in. in mid October the water was still 23 degrees and swimming in the crystal clear water reflecting the colors of the changing foliage was magical. I suggest one rents a private... More

WE had a wonderful 2 days staying in Hotel Maji 1 right on "Lake Ohrid" We drove from Greece into Albania and passed beautiful water falls that streamed down the edge of the road, and then was surprised by the view of the lake. I was amazed at how high up we were .We arrived at our Hotel in the... More

A nice bus ride from Skopje and you discover a peaceful unpolluted little town embraced by beautiful mountains. First, the long long walk along the paved road around the lake, stopping over a bridge overlooking small boats, ducks, seagulls and needless to say, crystal clear water with zillions of little fish. You can climb the paved hills thru charming cobbled... More

Try to watch the sunset over the hills and you can take great photos. If you are there in summer, you definitely need to swim in it and there are fine beaches nearby. Also there are great bars around it where you enjoy your drink by the lake. Finally, it is a very romantic place for a couple and try... More

Our family took a long leisurely stroll around the lake and it was so lovely! Be sure to bring some bread with you so you can feed the birds. Beware though, the seagulls tend to swarm if you go to feed just the swans. There are fun vendors to visit around the lake as well as many restaurants.
