you'll be lucky to catch a glimpse of any layering of fabric resembling a woman. woman are completely hidden in siwa. they don't come out, and if they do, they are completely covered-- not even revealing their eyes. so it's very intimidating as a female traveler to combine with this culture dominated completely by men. when i dipped in any... It was worth the 9 hrs drive from Cairo, to the quite and tranquile Siwa. My personal most enjoyable experience is in the hot/warm springs and cold springs in the desert. On the way back to Cairo, stop for a dip at the Cleopatra Rock in Marsa Matrouh. It is just amazing clear water.

The pool itself seems inviting as it appeared so cooling when the local boys jumped into it from the wall.. But there were some trashes floated on the surface that made me refrain myself for getting into the pool.. We went to other freshwater springs in Siwa and apparently they were all mossy and slippery.. But nonetheless, they're refreshingly cool!... More

They like staring at scantily clad women...so .... don't go during the day, go at midnight or later, take some candles and place them around the spring or a glow stick or two. If there is a lot of... Part of the appeal of this place is myth, the other part is the beauty of the clear water. The pool is not that large, but I suppose it gives people visiting the desert something to do.

Beautiful crystal clear refreshing azure spring, great for a dip on a hot day. Great juice bar right next to the spring with a chilled out atmosphere and delicious drinks. After having made an effort to "cover up" in spite of the heat, as is expected in siwa due to the conservative Islamic culture, we were surprised to find ladies... More

I thought this spring was going to be more natural but its a spring that has been shaped into something like a pool, we bike rode out which was very hot, so be prepared for the heat. Was a nice swim but to cool off!
