This museum is in the middle of nowhere as you approach the White Desert. It doesn't look like much, but has hundreds of mummies and lots to see. It is quite well displayed and worth a look. Quite nice museum and one doesn't need to worry about crowds!

We visited both the Mummy museum and the tomb site across the street. This was our only chance to see mummies, as the Egyptian museum was inaccessible. Small but in excellent shape and well cared for--the most Western style museum we entered. We had a guide, but independent visitors will find no information available onsite. The tombs are a must--very... More

Recent discoveries of 10,000 mummies in a field outside of town have the place on the map. Half a dozen are on display. They date from the Greco-Roman period. Very interesting.

This site and the cemetary the mummies came from can be had for one price. If you do not speak Arabic, it may be good to get a Bedoin guide as these sites are not easy to locate and you will get more details about what you are viewing
